Nooby Question - Door Seals

Featured Replies

Sorry I have a very nooby question, ever since reading about leaking doors I have been checking mine but today I noticed when I opened the driver door I noticed that the black rubbery seal stuff has come away from the car can I just stick it down again? And should I use anything in particular?

Thanks :)

Silicone should do the job. If your worried about the leaks then just pull off the door cards and put a bead of silicone around too while your at it. Makes sense really.

The seal that you are talking about (I think) is the stuck on seal that goes from the front to the rear, it doesn't really prevent water ingress and is more to stop wind noise.

The seals around the door aperture prevent water getting in between the door and the body and are a push fit onto the frame.

The seals that everyone talks about leaking are in the door. Under the door interior panel there is a metal carrier that is either bolted or rivetted to the door, this carries the window winder mechanism. It is the seal between this carrier and the door that is notorious for leaks. The way to check is to open the door and look for water or signs of water coming out between the door trim and the door.
