Electric window gremlins

Featured Replies

I think that I am correct in saying that I have read of members having problems with the switches for the electric windows in the furby mysteriously switching around. Just was reading an old issue of What Car, with a end of year review of a Furby they had owned for 12 months. The same thing happened to their test car, so it is obviously a weakness.

Happened to me too on one occasion recently. Had me fooled into thinking I pressed the wrong button on the console. Rectified itself automatically though.

It is a bit of a VW trait with their switchgear and tends to sort itself out, not a major problem really.

Possibly related to the CANBUS system for electrics? Some electrical faults do seem to clear when the car is 'rebooted' by switching off then back on again.

the drivers window on my octavia keps buggering about, use the one touch to close and it will get about 3/4 up then go back down and you have to open then close manually to get it to work again. its an intemitent problem and i dont know if its electrical or a sticky bit on the sliders??

Could be sticky sliders, but could also be you just need to reset the closure mechanism. The procedure is in the owners handbook.

i haven't got a handbook

how do you reset the mechanism??

If the battery is re-connected, the top position of the closed window has to be set (system activated):

- Close all the windows with the convenience closing system

- release the key

- After closing the window, hold the key in the closed position for a further 3 seconds or so.

Convenience operation of windows.

When the car is unlocked and locked, it is possible to open and close the power windows (only to close the sliding/tilting roof), as follows:

- Hold the key in the lock in the opening or closing position until all the windows are opened or closed. The opening or closing operation is interrupted immediately when the key is released.

Well you learn something new everyday. :D Think I'll be showing that off to me mates.

I also have had some trouble with the drivers windows. You tell it to do one thing and it does another.

It is worth rereading what the Owners Manual says about opening and closing electric windows since I suspect that finger trouble is to blame when the one touch system doesn't work for me.

Opening versions

- The window is opened by applying slight pressure to the relevant switch in the door. The opening operation is stopped when the switch is released.

- The front windows are automatically opened fully if the switch is pressed as far as the stop.

The window stops immediately when the switch is again pressed.

When closing, the switch is pulled up slightly or as far as the stop, depending on whether or not automatic closing is required for the front windows.

I've never known my switches to switch round but I have known the driver's side window to go down when it should go up. Closing it with the key cured the problem.

I think its quite a common problem to have the drivers window go up to 3/4 then stop and go back down again. I've taken my car in about it 6 times now to 2 different dealers and they just cannot fix it! They have replaced slider mechanisms, tried loosening the grip on the glass, all sorts of things!

Had that with my old black one Dave. No problems yet with the new one.

I've had that too. I think that the trapped-finger mechanism must be a bit too sensitive. I wonder if it can be adjusted? K?
