painting engine cover!!!!!!!

Featured Replies

ive been looking for parts for my oct vrs and seen a nice carbon fibre engine cover, that then got me thinking about getting the cover sprayed the same colour as the car.

just wondered if this is common and if anyone had any pics and rough prices?

looked through other threads but couldnt find any info

cheers

get a spare cover from a scrappy and give it a go yourself.

The hardest bit will be cleaning and priming it so the paint sticks ok

Plastic Primer will be needed too.

Fezboy is selling a carbon fibre engine cover in th parts for sle section

Or you could by mine in the for sale section ( Cough Cough  )

Thanks anyway

I remember seeing someone had posted pics up of an engine covour they had sprayed, it was white, it looked gash.

Isn't there quite a chance the paint will heat up and the fumes gas you while you drive? Nice way to go.

Is this the cam cover, or the plastic "obsfurcation cover"? In the first case, I'd suggest using a high temperature paint. In the second, you'll need a specialised plastic primer, and I'd recommend using an acrylic paint over it.

On the what does it look like point, I think you need a nice person with a brightly coloured Octy and a copy of Photoshop!

Hmm... not too sure on the idea of a bright yellow engine cover. A week of winter driving and it'll be very beige at best :P

I had a friend of mine spray my engine cover, the piece in front of the inlet manifold, the battery cover,my expansion tank cover and scuttle panel as seen in this pic

they've been like that a few years now and the paint has not lifted or tarnished in any way and imo it looks good:thumbup:

That does look very smart, dsmithmobile.
