Small, Cheap, Fun

Featured Replies

Well, the Panda 100 can be had for £8500 brand new, which is a bargain for sure.

However, I think more fun can be had. I'd seriously be considering an MX5, or the Smart Roadster for low-speed thrills. A new Mini Cooper needs working hard to get into license loosing speeds and would be quite fun for sure.

I know how you feel about the speed issue, and yes it is you that needs to be restrained... However, even something like a Civic Type R will make you aware of the speed you are doing.

EDIT - the Fiesta ST can be had for £10,500 now, makes the rest of the bunch look expensive!!!

trading in their smart cars then?

Buy a car with a Polish plate !

Alternativly I know some cars yave a buzzer you can set when you exceed a certain speed, I know it was std on some of the old M3's

Cruise control is always a great help

why not just buy a good speed camera detector?

bang some foriegn plates on and go for it pinko!!!!

another vote here for the PANDA 100HP , loads of fun to drive

I've driven the panda 100bhp, and its an absolute hoot! there is also the 500 sport (panda 100 in a less practical, but prettier body) my local garage has a demonstrator, I will be driving it as soon as I find a bit of spare time to get down there!

MX5 is also a good option, everything I hear about them is good, but I've never driven one....

The suzuki, is by all acounts a good car, but never driven that either ....

oh, and I'll keep the MP6 at my house if you don't want it?! ;)

205 GTI 1.9? ;)

Or 1.6... in which case you can buy mine!

i really fancy a mx5 myself but not sure about the whole girly iage thing.

My mate worked for mazda and the new one with solid roof is ace.

or suzuki swift love the look of it and not bad spec

so

MAZDA MX5 OR SUZUKI SWIFT (SPORT)

How about a Z4, they look quite nice. but the MX-5 is a bl00dy good car for the money Roy :)

Something light, low powered and with skinny wheels/tyres so very little grip, makes it feel like your going fast!!

Got to be an MX5. 1.6 to save licence!

he's allready said he's homophobic:D

Well, homophobia or not, I'm coming round to the idea of an MX5 2.0 sport. I could pretty much swap my car for a nearly new one and not have owt to pay.

But for serious cheapness the Panda is an undeniable bargain. I actually prefer it to the 500. It's just that I swore I would never bbuy another Fiat after a nightmare ownership experience a few years ago.

If you can live with the space in a '5, go for it

Take one out for a test; I don't think you'll be disapppointed.

Steve

Another vote for the Lupo GTI. It has one of the most responsive engines I've ever had the pleasure to sit behind, and at only 125bhp it's quick but not a rocket. Oh and nice Xenons too.

Or how about a SportKa? That was Evo's favourite small quick hatch before the telephone box Panda arrived on the scene. 500 has got to be way cooler?

I suppose a MINI Cooper (not S) is too homosexual for you?

Or going back a page, yes the 205 GTI! I owned a two year old one about a 1000 years ago and it was a hoot. I'd love another one as long as it had power steering.....(I was young back then!).....and I think it's the only Hot Hatch that I've driven that didn't have to slow down for speed humps. Fantastic ride and handling balance, but the suspension did sit a bit high which is no bad thing in a car that spends a lot of time around town.

If the Panda appeals what about one of these as a daily hack

Suzuki : Red UK Cappuccino

Dont laugh, this particular one came on the Furball with us last year, never missed a beat & the guy had an absolute hoot, especially in the mountains

I don't like the Sportka, it doesn't feel quick due to the zetec's lack of pickup - its bogged down by a heavy flywheel - and the build is shockingly cheap.

How about a 106 GTi? Cheap, quick, faultless handling and will definitely make you well aware of its speed!

wow, have you seen the price of used panda 100hp's, theres a 07 plate with 2500 miles on for 8k on the fiat website,

Talk about depreciation

MX5.Great cars but you really have to work them to make them shift.

No excuse then for saying " I couldn't believe I was suddenly doing 150 after I feathered the throttle":D you know full well when you are wellying these

Read Clarkson's latest piece in the Times about the MX

FWIW, my TomTom 520 has a speed warning function so it makes a noise when you go over a user defined speed. Mines set to "fanfare" at 100mph... :P

hopefully fiat has turned a corner, the panda was the first car fiat have had that has done well in the JD power surveys, and my GP, is now up to 28k and had been on a par with the skoda so far, if it's gearbox lasts past 40k, then it will have been massively more reliable that the skoda! lol.....

another lupo gti suggestion here from me.

having owned one i have to say it felt special every time i drove it. there were only less than 1000 brought into the country by VW, so they are rare enough that you won't see loads on the road.
