YES!True Re-aligned rear axle - initial impressions

Featured Replies

Well I finally got around to installing plastic Shims under the rear axle stubs to correct a misalignment of the rear axle. Took me and a mate (95% me!) around 3 hours to do in total.

Initial impressions of the car now - much much better! I have to arrange a 4WA check to document actual numbers but it feel extremely good.

It seems extremely neutral in turns and I can swap lanes really quickly. Tracks straight as an arrow, but easy to "throw about" as needed.

Although I'm bushed - and at work again this pm - I feel really good.

Car used to feel like despite the engine upgrades I was dragging the rear of the car behind me.

It feels completely "freed up" now - far more responsive to steering input and no pull to either side that I can sense(I still need to fiddle with the console to get the front caster equalised/closer to spec tho').

I promise to have a detailed DIY with pics up asap - It's not technically difficult by any means at all and hopefully will allow people to avoid having to replace the whole rear beam axle to correct a rear misalignment.

Also (and probably more importantly:D) it will allow people to dial in almost any setting for rear camber as well as toe.... For track/drag strip use or for those private roads that everyone seems to have in the UK

Cheerio

Bas

Nice work Basil :), glad you managed to sort it and have noticed a change in the way the car drives.

Looking forward to the "how to" :)

Nice one, Bas. Also interested, I'm having a 4WA very soon, so will ensure I keep the sheet to note what my rear alignment is.
