IPOD questions.....

Featured Replies

I'm toying with getting an ipod nano 3rd gen in a month or two and have looked up the info on here regarding itrips & the dension cables etc...

I've just got a couple of questions though that i wondered if anyone could answer for me.

1. I'm assuming that if i just connect the ipod straight to the dension cable that i'll need to crank the volume up on both the ipod and the HU. Is this right???

2. If i use a dock to put the ipod in then connect the leads to the dock does this negate the need to crank up the volume on the ipod / HU???

3. This might sound like a thicko question but would the dock need a power source or does it feed off the ipod???

Cheers

Dave.

I have a Nano 3rd gen & Dension Ice>Link Gateway 100 connection. It use the CD changer socket at the back of the stereo, so the the stereo sees it as a CD changer.

So........

1. The volume can be controlled via the stereo as normal. No need to play around with the volume on the iPod.

2. As above.

3. The dock use the power source from the stereo & charges the iPod as you listen. All you need to do when installing is find a suitable earth point for the cable loom supplied.

Aaaaaahhhhh right..... I thought if connected straight to the link cable you had to turn up the volume of the ipod and also the HU to get a sound level that could be heard well etc..... So the volume level is the same as if i were playing a CD in the HU then???

If so i might not bother with the dock etc...

Dave just make sure that you get the Gateway one as the old IceLinks dont work with the new iPods ;)

Yep.

I have the normal dock cable & routed it to the front of the centre console. I just plug the iPod in & sit it in the front cupholder of the Leon.

I'll try to post a pic up soon.

If i can get away without getting a dock that'll do nicely..... I'm not fussed about being able to charge the ipod etc.... in the car.

It charges the iPod by default anyway.

Here's a pic of my Gateway 100 dock cable in the Leon.

I routed it at the front of the centre console, but the cable is long enough to go as far back as the back of the console, if you wish (Some Leon II owners have fitted the iPod inside the armrest).

Mine is a symphony HU though.......

I know it means not having control of the IPOD via the HU but that isn't a problem for me..... I'll send them a question asking if it's compatible with the nano 3g.

Cheers

Dave.
