Any Brodit users?

Featured Replies

I've just got a new TomTom Go 520 T and am looking to mount it differentlt and liked the look of Proclip and Brodit.

The Proclip is very pricey but I'm not sure what exactly I need to order as they seem to recommend 2 parts. It for mounting to the air vents rather than the screen.

Hopefully it would be fairly universal and be good for my Passat and Bora.

There are some on E-bay but just have no experience of these mounts.

Help please!

I use Brodit proclip's and would recommend them to anyone. They consist of two parts, the clip which holds the phone/device and the vehicle specific mount. Not sure what is available for the tomtom, but for normal phones they usually have one available a few days/weeks after it is released.

The proclips are vehicle specific, so you may not be able to use the same clip for both vehicles unless the vent/dash is exactly the same.

Proclip's provide a mounting point for the 'holder' so you don't have to drill/screw directly into the dash. Hence the two parts (as Quinten said)

I've also found that websites are generally cheaper than eBay for the Brodit stuff. But that may just be the Fabia/My phone.

Another  from me - have tended to get the Brodit stuff from Smartphone, Pocket PC & Ultra-Mobile PC Store - eXpansys UK or GPS PDA Sat Nav - Brodit, Mio, Navman, CoPilot, TomTom, Garmin, O2 Orange, T-Mobile, Vodafone, Mounts & Accessories - Handnav Technology Ltd

Check car phone brackets: nokia car kits, Brodit Apple iPhone Holders: iO play for the actual vehicle mount, as they sometimes offer different/better mounting solutions that the ProClip, depending on the vehicle.

So 2x Brodit TomTom holders, then a mount for each car from any of the suppliers mentioned :)

Would I need two Proclips, one for each car plus the move clip?

Seems I'm not getting what the web site means or it's not worded great.

Thanks for the help.

My understanding is that you'd need two Proclips, as these are differently shaped, depending on the car you're fitting them too. Shape of the dash, vents etc

But I agree, it could be worded better. Perhaps contact Brodit, or Handnav, to seek clarification?

I have 2 proclips in my octavia, one mounted to the left of the climate control with my Nokia phone holder on, and the other mounted on the centre console with my PDA tomtom on it. Proclips are car specific as already mentioned.

So you have two clips but does each of these consist of two parts, do these have to be ordered seperately?

Could you post up pictures please if it's not too much bother?

This is what I have,

Basically the proclip is a good quality mounting bracket. I drilled several holes in each to allow the OEM brackets for the phone and Tomtom holder to be installed. The one on the centre console is removed when not in use, the phone holder is left in the car.

Link to a post I made which has my current setup:

There's also quite a good pic of the dash Proclip here:

And a link to a post I made, which has both side radio and dash mounts visible for the Fabia:

All of these setups require the purchase of the mount suitable for the car, then the mount for the device, that screws into the vehicle mount. Or in the case of the 'Move Clip' it's a bit more flexible.

Hope this helps.

Cheer for the pics very much appreciated!

I guess that if you only had the flexi window mount and didn't want to damage that then you would just order the specific holder from Brodit themselves?

Again Steve you never fail to surprise me with what tech stuff you seem to be able to get your hands on. Not sure if you're a gadget freak like me or I'm just lucky that I seem to be looking for what you've already tried.

I'm always the follower and never the leader!

 - nope, you're quite right, I do like my gadgets :D

Let me know how you get on - it's definitely the right way to go about mounting the TomTom

Will do, phoning them sounds like the best way forward as long as they don't try it on that is!

I've decided to only get the Brodit at the moment for my Passat and keep using the screen mount for the Bora.

I'll need to get the Proclip specific for the Passat but then I'mnot sure if i just get the mount with or without the power lead attached!

There is only £10 difference but I already have a power lead and the TMC cable. It might be handy having the power lead constantly attached to the mount and keep the one that came with the TT unit for the 2nd car.

Has anyone got any experiences of wether it's worth it or not to buy the dearer mount or not?

Cheers1

I got the powered one so I could hardwire it into the car, saves having wires everywhere. Remember if the mount is staying on all the time then the cable is hanging down all the time, regardless of whether it's plugged in or not. Which is a right **** in the Fabia - but guess that depends on how your car is and where it's mounted?

Yeah I thought about that after I posted and I was wondering how often itwould be used especially with it being moved between 2 cars.

dsldevelopments.com seem to be coming up cheapest and they are an autherised Brodit dealer.

£13.99 for the Proclip and £ 24.99 for the mount (tilt and Swivel) £2.99 P&P.

Looks a good deal but never used them before.

Tried to call NavMan but no luck getting through and online they didn't list the correct mount.

Anyone any experince of dsldevelopments?

Got mine from them, they say if its ordered before three then they post same day.

Ordered mine at half 4 and it arrived at 10am the next day (that was recorded delivery, not their next day delivery option)

Two thumbs up from me.

Got mine from dsldevelopments, took about five days for delivery but this was just before christmas and everything I ordered took ages to be delivered no matter where from. I got the powered bracket that wires into the fusebox, absolutely brilliant as it's centimetres from my left hand when it's on the steering wheel and you can plug it in by just dropping it into the bracket. No fiddling about trying to get the USB cable into the bottom of the unit.

I'll be putting an order through in the morning.

Thanks again for all the help from a alternative mount novice.

Good to hear - get some pics up when everything's sorted

Stuff arrived today got the Proclip from DSL for £16 and the mount from E-bay for £21 both include delivery.

Already screwed them together but my wife has the Passat today so pics later once it's in place.

I guess follow the instructions unless you know of any special tricks!

Delivered next day through Royal Mail so can't complain, I never really had any problems with them - maybe because my brother-in-law is a postie:rofl:

Good stuff - no, the Brodit instructions seem to be of good quality - shouldn't need any special tips :)

The Fabia ProClip seems too small, but after a quick PM on here I had the confidence to 'jam it in' and it's more solid than the dash now.

Already buggered the holder though, had to make some adjustments with a scalpel, and now take much care when sliding the phone in. But it's all good. And far better than the 5.99 universal 'squeezy' holder I had. Looking at the overall price before I was worried that it wouldn't be worth it. But definitely over that now. I love it.
