Aero wiper mod

Featured Replies

Just looking at Rob Clubleys site (thanks Rob, some great help on there )

Just wondering with regard to the aero wiper mod, are the wiper arms any different, or just the blades? If it is just hte blades would this OEM VW Golf Bora Polo & Lupo retrofit Aero wiper blades on eBay, also, Volkswagen, Car Parts, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 24-Jan-08 13:40:47 GMT) be a suitable alternative to replacing the whole arms?

Handily its got the VAG part number in the ebay ad too!

A few peeps have just used the blades and they work fine.

Nice one. Didn't think the arms looked that different anyway!

Knock yerself out!

The ends of the arms are different where the blades attatch. The standard ones have a kind of hook which the blades slide onto. The aeros have a peg at 90 degrees to the arm and the blade slots onto that.

indeed. If you want to use proper mk4 golf aero wipers, then you will need the new arms. However if u want to use "conversion kit" aero wipers they fit onto the existing arms, but look less neat/tidy.

I've got the Valeo aero one's fitted to mine - look better and work tons better than the normal ones and the wind noise from them when I'm on the motorway is massively reduced.

Personally I don't think it matters which ones you go for, because they are definitely worthwhile fitting.

do they fit on standard mk1 octy arms? how much?

my standard ones lift at about 90mph and i cant see bugger all in the rain unless i slow down!!! maybe its a safety measure.......

need some new blades me thinks

The ones in the ebay auction are for a golf using pre-aero arms. Although the golf aero arms fit on the octy, I wouldn't be sure that the non aero arms are the same between the two cars... so you may find that those blades are the wrong length(s) to suite the standard octy arms. I know people have fitted afrermarket aero blades... but I've not heard of anyone fitting the VW retro fit kit to the Octy arms.

Just noticed the seller... if their sales items are priced by the people who price their servicing, it may be worth checking with a VW dealer before buying... they might be cheaper!

I got them from wiperblades.co.uk - about £27 for the pair delivered and a straight swap.

The model numbers are Valeo UM664 and Valeo UM622 (the drivers side one has a spoiler you fit to the wiper arm).

I looked into this and personally I went oem blades and arms.

The "conversion kits" just don't look right as you still have the crappy end of the orig arm sticking out from the non-oem blades.

Even to the point where I've now bought a set of oem arms and blades for my 96 A4

anyone got a picture of aero blades fitted to standard mk1 octy arms?

Not very good picture, its dark out but here goes

The OEM arms are different to the original ones and the standard Golk MK IV aero blades mount on a pin rather than a loop system.

I think the Proper job is a much better one than the after market one as you don't have two big bits of plastic.

just ordered the Valeo Silencio X.TRM aftermarket aero blades from wiperblades.co.uk for £25.10 for the pair.

I'll let you know what I think of them soon......

They have to better than the ones I have! Which are pathetic at motorway speeds.

I have some ebay aero wipers and they do the trick.

You won't be dissapointed they work great, and i got mine from same place, great service, you will get them tomorrow if you ordered today.

Just fitted a set to my B5 A4. Wouldn't be with out them on any VAG model.

Gone for the Golf Mk4 fronts, but just trying to do something with the rear wiper now

After searching found that (some) post '03 models were fitted with a smoother wiper, but there doesn't seem to have been any clarification of whether this does actually fit the pre-'03 model?

If your's a estate, you could use the polo 6n rear

Sorry, should have said, hatch

ah...... the choices suddenly drop somewhat. I can't think of many other hatches in the VAG range with the same type of rear window setup as the octy Mk1

There was an Audi I saw that looked like it would fit, maybe an older A6.

Failing that the later (04 on I think) octy's have a plastic covered blade that looks a lot more aero, even though it covers a normal blade.
