Picking up Octy 1.9tdi elegance

Featured Replies

I pick up my new car tonight, it's a 55 plate estate, coming from Superb 2.5v6 comfort.

Quite excited :goodvibe:, yet at the same time sad to see the saloon go.

Fluid levels and tyre pressures aside is there anything I should check at the dealers before driving off or once I get home.

Listen for what sounds like the exhaust blowing slightly, accompanied by a bit of clutch judder when you move off. The dual mass flywheel could be duff. Tried a similar model at the dealers the other day and it was quite obvious to me what the trouble was. Not so obvious to the dealer unfortuately.

Thanks, I test drove it on Sunday and it sounded fine. Would this have been obvious from inside the car?

It's coming approved used so at least that's some peace of mind

Hi! I've had my 55 plate 1.9tdi Elegance (hatchback) for a few weeks now - welcome to the club! :) Hope you enjoy your car! Mine's all right - super handling on twisty A-roads although it feels a bit fidgety at motorway speeds for some reason compared to my old 306 that it replaces but the interior and comfort is brilliant!!!

Hey kmc

Got it last night and agree re the motorway driving, but soon got used to it once i put the cruise on. Although to be fair I'm coming from a Superb v6 so I appreciate there was always going to be a difference in handling characteristics. It feels like I'm higher up rather than fairly low slung like my superb was.

I'm looking forward to the country roads that we drive regularly for mountain biking.

Amazed by the CD/radio, think it looks and sounds nice(once I got the levels sorted), plus couldn't believe what happened when I put it in reverse - I get a wee picture of the car. How cool is that?

car is a 55 plate but they've just serviced it and it could honestly pass for brand new. Thinking of putting a private plate for that very reason.

Hi

Re my flywheel response. It would be obvious with door open - a engine note is not right, however driving it would give it away straight away. The 55 plate I tested had 11.5 k on the clock. I was a bit shocked. So was the dealer. I'm sure yours will be fine. I don't know why some fail and others are never a problem. My old VW tdi was never a problem.

Hi Burnsey,

Glad you're enjoying it so far - I reckon it's handling is superb on winding A-roads - I think you will enjoy it!! :) Mine is a 55 plate as well and apart from a couple of nicks, could pass for new too! Only 10.5k miles when I got it too! For the price, compared to the Golf, I think it's a bargain. The rear parking aid is cool - especially as you see the car graphic on the stereo (I noticed this when I test drove my car and was impressed with this!). There are loads of other little things which make the whole experience enjoyable - like the radio volume dropping down when you reverse so that you can hear the parking aid beeps (also less of a destraction!). I also really like the climate control - one button press and I'm into auto, one button press for priority demisting of the front windscreen. My favourite thing is actually the lighting from the side mirrors when you lock up - class!!! Yeah, a great car once i get used ot the high speed ride quality. Here's hoping that our cars don't suffer from some of the gremlins that others here have had the misfortune to have. Enjoy the driving!!!
