police car crashes.

Featured Replies

Theres always a few.

But then you shouldnt take opinions and comments seen online as gospel truth.

Oh dear. Touch wood, I've only ever had 1 "polac" and that was bad enough. :o

You have to admit the BMW was impressive, but WTF about the head on or the rapid resp doctor.

The docs car had the roof cut off why are the mail going so OTT on that?

I did wonder why they showed the pic of the ambulance car. Also the comment about the cop car squeezed between the post and building - I wouldn't call it that, the post stopped the car going any further. Squeezed would imply the post would be up to the drivers door or suchlike.

The Daily Mail is an anti police news paper. Need I say more...................................:(

Considering the pressure police drivers are usually under when trying to apprehend dangerous and sometimes armed criminals, crashes are inevitable.

'Normal' drivers under 'normal' conditions can usually top any crash the police can muster :(

Yep - please justify using the word newspaper in the same sentence as Daily Mail?

:D

I wouldn't say the Mail is anti-police, it's just the police give the Mail so much bloody ammunition!*

*I can't stand the Mail, largely because I've been force fed it by parents perched firmly on the moral high-ground.

Ditto, I despise that rag with a passion. They must have dose their 'journalists' up to the eyes to stop them commiting suicide with all the doom-and-gloom they write.

Back on topic, that spin out was impressive, I'm amazed it didn't roll or clip anything at that speed. After being through that no wonder he stayed so calm after the lorry pulled out on him

Yep but if he hadn't gone over the known dirty sections of road, maybe he wouldn't have had the spin out in the first place ;)

What concerns me most about the lorry incident is that a) in the video you can see the lorry is indicating right pretty early on in the approach, B) they are approaching a roundabout (so I'd guess the lorry intends to turn right) and c) the police officer knows that lane 3 runs out shortly before the roundabout and is therefore accelerating into a closing gap. Maybe things looked different from his point of view, but in that situation undertaking looks much more appealing (possibly accompanied by the waa-waa's for traffic on the roundabout) because if things go wrong and the lorry returns to lane 1, the hard shoulder is still there as an escape route.

It's a good example of where "knowing the road" can get you unstuck!

I know this junction, yes the third lane stops, and the driver was looking to turn right to go north on the M18, that is fairly obvious. It obviously never occurred to the officer that it was not possible for the driver to see him in his mirrors, so how was he supposed to know that there was a car approaching very rapidly. Also IIRC the lines for the inside lane change prior to the third lane stopping, effectively making the it a dual carriageway. Please correct me if I am wrong there though.

What it all comes down to is that if he had had his siren, or even maybe just his blue lights the lorry driver may have noticed him earlier, and that to me is what make the difference between it being 'safe' to being 'unsafe' to travel at such speed.

whats that saying?

oh yeah....... WHO POLICES THE POLICE ?????

oh yeah....... WHO POLICES THE POLICE ?????

The HMIC.

Rob.

The police officer says he had his headlights flashing... I can't see any reflection on the road/lorry/signs until after the impact - after which the reflection is very obvious. Is he telling porkys or am I too suspicious?

Personally, I think that was inappropriate to drive in that fashion just to catch a speeding BMW. It wasn't as if there were lives at stake (not directly anyway - we all know speeding can kill :rolleyes:) but through his actions it could well have ended in disaster. Also, the voiceover stated he had his headlights flashing, I beg to differ;

There were no reflections in the large motorway sign before the bridge and no evidence of flashing headlights on the rear of the lorry but AFTER the impact it is plainly obvious the headlights are flashing due to the reflections on the road signs.

They were both in the wrong IMO :thumbdwn:

Each individual force will have a complaints or discipline dept, then if required, the IPCC.

plenty of manpower to catch speeders, none about on the estate to catch druggies, you can ring them, tell them what you know, have just witnessed,or even filmed, the drunk vandles can do what they want, and violent trouble makers make it a no go area for most people after dark,i guess catching speeding beemers is a priority worth taking silly expensive risks for,but i supose its easy as any conviction looks good on the figures eh?

...

I hear that Mr Langley is no longer serving in the UK force and has emigrated to New Zealand. Look out, Rob ;)

I thought that too. Maybe there is a good reason why he decided to move to the other side of the world?
