Pic Resizing. . .

Featured Replies

I'm not that computer literate, I can type well and use computers all the time but the technical bits are still beyond me.

So, would anyone be willing to help me by resizing a pic of my new car for me so I can put it on my profile. Needs to be less than 100 kb or something and the pic was taken on my 5 mega pixel camera.

Thanks

Thanks Skodalover, you're a star.

I shall have a play as soon as I get home

My thanks to skodalover too, nice simple to use kit. Note to Angelus...

Once you've cropped/re-sized etc changing file format to gif reduces file

size if you ever want to post big pics... sorry if you already knew this but

i only just discovered it while tampering:)

To get slightly technical - gif and jpeg are better at different things due to the way the compression algorithms work. The long and short of it is:

gif for simple graphics with not many colours (i.e. most icons/logos)

jpeg for complex images (i.e. photos).

IrfanView - Official Homepage - one of the most popular viewers worldwide is another nifty free image manipulation program.

How do people, when posting pictures, get them virtually full screen, when I

go into 'manage attatchments' and upload a picture, I have to seriously re-size

so as not to breach the allowed kb size allowed.. they turn out tiny:(

thanks in advance for any (hopefully not too technicle) aid:O

the 500k jpeg limit is enormous! You need to use something like irfanview - resize the image as you want it, then when you save it (as jpeg) there's an options slider with which you set the image quality from 0-100% - by setting this around 70-80 you'll find images shrink dramatically.

Alternatively, host images on Welcome to Flickr - Photo Sharing or Image hosting, free photo sharing & video sharing at Photobucket or similar and just post the link.

I've had a play and although the site appears easy to use i can't save any pics. I resized and then at the bottom left hand side i went to save as jpeg (chose my desktop to save it to). I then got a message saying that it was trying to save a program. The file extension was .jpg.html for some reason. Then when i tried to open the file again after it had saved it was just a page of letters and numbers, some sort of code - It was like being an extra in the Matrix, is there an Agent Smith anywhere ? ? ?

I'm on a mac and using Safari, don't know if that makes any difference

Ah, the work of the devil. Haven't a clue about Macs.

I thought they were supposed to be 'simple'?

They are simple, i'd not go back to a PC again. I just can't see the option that says "make this smaller so I can post it on Briskoda" so i'm lost. . . .

I'll keep playing :)

I'm on a Mac running Firefox, it makes no difference... just manually delete .html from the end of .jpg.html and you'll be fine!

Easy, register an account with photobucket.com, resize images to a sensible size (say 800 pixels wide), upload them to photobucket, once uploaded simply cut and paste the IMG Code into your post... see below for what you need to copy (selected in blue)!
