best HID kit for my fabia VRS?

Featured Replies

can anyone suggest what HID kit from the selection on ebay would be suitable for a 54 plate fabia VRS?many thanks

could try a quick search;)

HID kits are not suitable for the Fabia lenses are they will scatter the light beam too much and blind others, and probably fail MOT.

There are no good aftermarket HID kits for any car, they are illegal.

Department for Transport - Aftermarket HID (Xenon) headlamps

Before the next question is asked - Fitting the OEM ones would require new headlamps/wiring/ballasts/bulbs/headlamp washers/5l washer tank/axle sensor and take a significant amount of effort and money.

You can buy several brands of uprated bulbs which whilst not as good as the OEM xenons are not too bad at all. I recommend Phillips Extreme.

Does someone want to make it a sticky along with a "New VRS" thread?

And loads of people say they are illegal, but i dont know anyone that has even been stopped for them, ive not had any bother and ive had them for 3 years

£20 for the kit

I paid more than that for my philips xtreme bulbs .......... I wonder if they will throw up a fault code on the octy, it's worth a punt at that price

Doesn't say a lot lot for the MOT testers or cops round your way or perhaps they have less to do round here... My Grandfather fails about 5 cars week on aftermarket HID kits, usually because of a poor pattern and/or poor alignment which they cant sort.

Surely the beam pattern produced is down to the reflector in the headlight?

A Halogen bulb produces light at all angles (give or take), and the reflector in the headlight is shaped to make sure that the light it emits ends up on the road in a pattern that will not blind other road users.

Now, if you take out that Halogen bulb and put in a xenon bulb, surely if the bulb is the same size, sits in the same position and emits light in the same direction as the Halogen bulb then the beam pattern will be no worse than with the Halogen bulb?

Also, I believe that you only need headlight washers and self-levellers if the xenons are factory fitted.

To be honest, this is the only forum where I've consistently seen people say that you can't fit aftermarket HIDs. Maybe there are lots of Fabias with poorly aligned headlights which will obviously be exaggerated when you fit HIDs but I can't see why you can't fit them.

Well, it was a Skoda main dealer and i watch them do the MOT. Ive also never, ever, been flashed by other road users for my xenons.

However i used to have a 51 plate toledo with xenons and i would get flashed often

Has anyone had any experience with the HIDS4U kits? They seem like a well manufactured product, with lots of research put into them, and also come with a 2 year guarantee.

Ive had a kit from HIDs4u for 3 years (cost me £250 back then :o ) I had a issue with a bulb failing just as it was comming up to two years old, replaced it with no issues :)

Do you have any pics Stuart Hatch?

I honestly believe this HID passing MOT malarkly is a postcode lottery if Im being honest.

Yea slap some piccys up if you can please! Im still in limbo as to buy a set or not, might take the plunge after next pay day!

Is there any way of refitting the halogen bulbs quickly without taking the ballasts/wiring etc out?

I doubt it.

I think you have to drill a hole in the back of the light cover too for the HIDs.

I wouldnt fancy fitting HIDS either with a big PD130 lump taing up the room behind.

I personally, didnt bother with drilling holes in my light covers, did it in my toledo and the lights just misted up all the time.

Left them off, and they were fine, so done the same in the fabia.

As for quickly swapping over to halogen bulbs, shouldn't take any longer than 5-10 mins.

As for pics, there isnt really much point, you have to see xenons in the flesh, they are too hard to capture properly

Closest i have is this pic

What K rating are those?

If I go for them it would probably be 6k.... did you need a wiring harness.

Ive got 6k ones fitted, there a treat

Those are 6000k, however im changing down to 4300k, gives a more bright crisp white light.

Everything is just plug and play, no wiring harnesses

Not really had any flashes, and if I do I just blind them even more with the Piaa Mains.

Not had a MOT yet but shouldnt see any problems. Been behind loads of police here and not been pulled or anything.

And finally no the only thing I removed was the back cover to poke the wire through. Used a christmas tree cutter thing. HTH

Will get some pics when its dark if I remember
