HPC Young Driver's Day 2008

Featured Replies

Just a :bump: for people on this - talking to Ant about it on Thurs at the North Weald day reminded me.

A great day and very useful - an opportunity not to be missed IMO. Don't think I'll be able to make it this year as I look to be double-booked that weekend. A shame; I drove a few of the roads on the route this weekend too

There's still a few places available for this event if anyone else is interested in attending....

Chris

I got my confirmation email - so I will be there!!!

Do we do any driving in our own cars??

Yeah usual format is you'll be driven in the HPC member's car and then you'll drive them in your own car. Some of the members have any vehicle insurance so they might be happy to do a demo in your car, but that's something you'd need to discuss with whoever you're paired with.

Unfortunately we don't get to find out the pairings until the day!

Chris

Okie dokie. No problems as such, just the interior is a bit of a tip and the a/c isn't working properly :(

Pairings?? As in 1:1??

I thought it would be in groups... ho hum, all the better!!

I certainly am looking forward to it. Suppose I should start thinking about my driving, I have been pretty lazy of late.

Yep, they're 1:1 sessions so £30 is a bit of a bargain, especially as it includes the Gatekeepers and HPC Higher Awards assessors too ;)

Best clean that car and fix the A/C to make a good impression :P

Chris

It's excellent day and well worth the £30 :)

A superb day this, enjoyed it hugely and I can't recommend it highly enough to any young driver wanting to improve their driving. I continue to use the tips and advice picked up on a daily basis

Gutted I can't go this year, but look forward to the next one :)

Cheers,

Steve

One day I'll get round to going to one of these. This years excuse is a team building day at work.

I'm kind of looking forward to it.

But when I applied I had a vRS. Now I've got a 10 year old Mondeo which is pretty minging inside at the moment, and has chips in the windscreen, a/c doesn't work... *sigh*. Don't want to be completely humiliated!!!

Tom, I shall be turning up in the Gay Panda . Trust me, your car is quite a way down the pi$$-taking pecking order ;)

Chris

In the right hands a Mondeo V6 is quite capable of kicking sand in the face of an Octy vRS driven by someone less capable.

Oh I know! ;)

However my suspension is somewhat tired, and like me is built for comfort, not speed!!

I still don't know whether I want to keep the car standard and treat it like a "hack", or get some shocks and springs on there, maybe a fruity exhaust... :rubchin:

Remember what Jon is always telling you - modify the driver for the greatest improvement ...

So am I the only Briskodian going then??

No, I'm going along again this year. :)
No, I'm going along again this year. :)

See you there then mate, I'm the big bloke in the Mondeo, come and say hi! :)

Will do! Met you at the North Weald handling day, although we probably didn't introduce each other properly. :)

See you tomorrow!

Had another great day with the HPC. Thanks again Chris! I've come away with some really nice comments from the HPC drivers I went out with and some great advice. Just need to continue practising!

Sorry I missed you at the end Tom, I turned around and you were gone!

Hope you all got back ok! :)

Glad you enjoyed it, Ant! I thought the overtaking talk was much more useful this year than the handling talk from last year, although I did realise at the end they'd just focussed on planning the overtake and not actually executing it.

Right, time I was setting off back to Oxford! I must be mad :orb_yawn:

Chris

Wotcha!

I too had a FABULOUS time at the HPC Young Drivers Day, really found the one to one sessions useful and great for building confidence (slow is often the fastest way! You Know!).

The seminars by Simon, Clive, Andy and Steve, were informative and pitched at just the right level (not to mention funny - condoms anyone??!!). So mega thanks to my lovely Chris for kicking my a$$ into going!

I was also EXTREMELY lucky to be invited along to the Dawn Raid this morning (well he couldn't really leave me behind could he? ;-) ) and was again blown away - not least coz I was in THE MOST AMAZING CAR IN THE WORLD. Aston Martin DBS - Steve Ivermee I salute you and driving God status.

Also a MAHUSSIVE thank you to John Cochrane and Mr Christophe for the superb runs in the BMW 328 - kindly lent to us by a very trusting Bob Wilkey.

So even though next year i will be vastly older than the 'Young' requirements fingers crossed I'll be there!!

xx

PS Nick - the HPC NEEDS you!!

I thought the overtaking talk was much more useful this year than the handling talk from last year, although I did realise at the end they'd just focussed on planning the overtake and not actually executing it.

Ideal for me, then! :D

I thoroughly enjoyed the day, very useful drives out, and lots of things taken away to practise.

Nice to meet you Chris, Ants and Lynne!

Lynny, I thought a lady aged until she was 21, and then remained 21 until she expressed a desire to be thought of as older than that?
