Bet this is a screamer

wouldn't mind one of them.. even if they forgot to paint the front!

I bet it is quick, pity it looks ugly though (IMHO).

 Front end looks a bit like an Astra though...

Shame the torque figures are crap 2!

But that's like saying it's a shame your car's rev range is crap.

i am sure it will scream, but i am also sure, you show it a keen driver and a corner and it will fall over!

My 07 civic sport (granted not the type r but the handling by all acounts is almost the same) is not good in the corners at all and not all that reliable either!

My 07 civic sport not all that reliable either!

Just to confirm - your saying your '07 plate Honda Civic Sport (Brand new car) Is not reliable????

This is not the soft and squishy UK version of the civic, the jap version that this is based on is like supposed to be like driving a granite slab, so im sure that it will fly round bends.

Not really, i think that is low torque for that sort of BHP, just look at the focus st, thats over 300 isnt it?

But the engine is bigger and of a different configuration :)

I dont no, im no expert, i just though that was pretty low thats all, but i guess its not?

It is a low torque figure but thats a Type R for you. My car has almost double the torque.

You'd be amazed how little torque an F1 engine generates considering its bhp. However, the engine's peak torque is not the be all and end all of performance. Gearing plays a massive part as this is the torque multiplier from the engine to the road wheels, as does the size of the rev range over which this multiplier can act....

Chris

Fair enough

rob - yes just to confirm.. my 07 plate civic (although has not ever not started on me) is less than honda's reputation would have you believe

here is a list of the current faults to date

1 - brakes are total rubbish - they are numb, have very little feed back, very little actual breaking force, the abs is too keen, it overheets the brakes within two minutes of spiried driving, and eating pads at a rate of 6k per se (when the front tyres have managed 17k and have just been changed)

2 - the clutch is horrid - it again is knumb, you either slip the clutch or wheel spin, there is no inbetween when pulling away with spirit, and when driving normally its jerky and unpleasent.

3 - after having the car for 3 months the drivers door lock started jaming so i could get in from the outside, but the door would jam when opening from the inside. this would cause all sorts of problems, and on occations cause me to have to climb out the passenger side

4 - the boot decided not to close at all one day meaning that i could not lock the car securely. took 2 days to get it to the garage and in that time the car was basically never locked

5 - the front suspention/subframe undid it's bolts and started clunking. took a couple of trips to the garge to get sorted

6 - new problem started today (car 1 year old to the day almost) the front nearside CV joint has started clicking

all in all not a shining example of quality and reliability...

as for the hardcore handling, if it has the same rear suspention as the uk spec car, then the handling traits will be similar....i.e. understeer.

the old civic had independant rear suspention, that has now been replace with the outdate rear beam suspention.

edit -anyway not wanting to take things tooo off topic, i do like the idea of the car, i just wonder what could be had for the same cash (i.e. better!!)

Thanks for the confirmation.

I know what you were stating about the money and what other cars you could get that would be better ect but we will have to see if and when honda decide to bring it out.

Im sorry to hear about all the Issues you have had with your car - I can only suggest as it is under warrenty to keep taking it back to honda untill its sorted. Unless you wish to buy a Nice Old Honda Civic Type R that is perfect.

If that is the case - Im your man :D lol

Yeah i am making sure this is all covered under warrenty (they replaced the first set of pads without me even asking under warrenty!! which does in after sales customer care make up a little bit! to be fair!)

i have liked the old type r for a long time (which prompted my new civic purchase!)

edit - as for other cars... i am an arieal atom person, it should either be a car for transporting ppl, or some fun, so for the cash i would have an atom... however i must admit i don't hve the cash, so i get whatever i can!! :)

But a Mazda6 MPS has 258 bhp and 280lb/ft, an LSD and 4wd for cheaper!

:sofahide:

But it isn't an atom.

An atom with a supercharger is so much fun :D

One of the guys who I work with was on the Mazda development team for the MPS, he brought it to the circuit one day and we were all very impressed

I've driven a number of new civic's as hire cars with work - its all we seem to get! And I admit that across the 4 or 5 I have drive, there are large inconsistencies, particularly with the engine. Some have been gutless and sound rough when revved (which is the only way to go anywhere in them!) while others have pulled to the redline sweet as a nut. The ride is harsh and the build quality sometimes great, sometimes not so.

However, all UK civics are built in Swindon, whereas all the japanese civics are built in Japan. The JDM Type-R does have independant single wishbone rear suspension too (and an LSD as standard). When 5th gear tested the JDM Type R vs. the UK Type R back to back, the JDM was over 3 seconds a lap quicker round castlecoombe. Furthermore, it can supposedly lap Tsukaba within 1 second of an NSX.

As for low torque figures, the guy that mentioned F1 cars before is right! You will find that they make over 800bhp, but have around (or even less) 200lbft of torque.
