CD Autochanger

Featured Replies

I have a June 2006 Elegance with the standard Stream audio and a 6 CD autochanger in the boot. It is the model just before the addition of the aux socket in the jumbo box.

Will the autochanger take CD-RWs without jamming? I ask this because a friend with a BMW ignored the warning in his manual, put a CD-RW in his autochanger and it jammed! Reason is that CD-RWs are slightly thicker than the standard CD.

I have scoured the manuals and found that they are ok to use in the in-car unit but can find nothing for the autochanger.

BTW I know that mp3 CDs don't play - these are transfers from my LP collection to CD-RW

From bitter experience, don't ever glue a label to the cd rw and try to play it in the autochanger (if you're as slow on the uptake as me, the heat in the player melts the glue..)

Apart from that, the depth difference would only be marginal

Just got my Octy II on a 55 plate and bunged all the CD-RWs into the car changer. I never use originals having heard of units getting jammed and have to be sent to VAG to fix, and or the potential loss of CD's in theft so all the ones I use are CD-RW.

Seems fine in mine
