Fuel cap plastic strap

Featured Replies

Have broken the little plastic strap that is attached to the fuel cap on SWMBO's 1.9TDi. Oops! To be honest it seemed pretty weathered! Anyone know if it's available as a separate part from the fuel cap and if it's an easy diy fix? Cheers!

Think its only available together, this happened to me last week...

part no. IJ0201550AS9B9 £16.90 +VAT

I think if it happended to me think I would buy a locking cap

Hmm. Thought as much - same as most of the new Mercs, need to buy the complete cap. What a pain! Probably won't bother as it's not a major hassle, unless I can claim it under warranty... :)

The locking cap - Hella make an aftermarket one (Hella part no. 8XY004729-001/OE 533 201 551 F) although it doesn't have the plastic strap. Obviously you then have the agro of another key.... From the picture I have of it, it also doesn't have the grooves which allow the cap to be placed on the filler flap when refuelling.

I'm used to having too mnay keys mate, the last owner kindly stuck a gearbox lock on the car which I have to remove with a key.

But the Fabia has a locking fuel flap, so why would you need a locking cap?

I'd just go without the strap TBH, as you can use the cut-out on the cap and place it on the top of the open flap when refuelling anyway, so the strap isn't really necessary IMO.

Is this any good? I have noticed it in the Fabia Extras Catalogue. I like the idea but it is expensive!

My Polo has a locking cap (no central locking) but it is a bit of a pain TBH - having both is probably overkill! :D Think I'll take the broken strap off this weekend.

got one from my scrappy for £3, from a nearly new golf
