Regular or Super Unleaded

Featured Replies

Which fuel should I use in my MK1 VRS? Do I need to change the spark plugs to benefit? If so what do you recommend?

Regular should be fine unless you can afford the higher 98 RON super-unleaded

I have heard stories of the newer FSI engines needing 98 RON to run at their best but they were introduced on the Octavia 2 and Golf mk5.

Go tesco 99 ron or v-power if you can afford it.

They are supposed to run 98 ron according to the manual but 95 ron if not available.

So basically the best the ron rating you can afford but will run fine on 95 ron up.

Ran my Octy Mk1 1.8T on normal premium without any issues.

The Mk2's FSI hates normal fuel, but TBH the diff is a few £ at most per tank.

Thanks

Can you suggest performance spark plugs?

You get more mpg out of high octane fuels too:)

I always run super, better for the engine and better mpg.

Tesco finest 99 oct for me.

shell v-power for me, get better response and mpg,was told 95 ron can cause headgasket problems?:)

Cor, Thats a new one !!!!!!!!!!

i use either Tesco 99 or Shell Vpower as other seem to give lumpy running or poor MPG but then im a fussy person who checks every rattle n squeek.

Me too, I even hear things that aren't there from time to time!

I personally think that V Power makes the car run better in terms of the tickover being less lumpy and the throttle response seems a little crisper. However, it could all be in my head.....

If it is then i have the same stuff in my head.

Have to say that i now always run mine on V-Power

Yeah!! same here, so that's three of us anymore? :D

Ran my old remapped mk1 vrs only on 95 ron, it never had a drop of 98/99 ron in my 4 years/ 55K miles of ownership. Had no troubles whatsoever, performance is slightly less but thats about it. For normal around town use, I'd use 95ron and for track days and so on try 98/99.

Tesco finest for me. Jabba even needed to know so as they could (apparently) give me better resuls. I'm getting around 350miles to a tank if that helps. All B roads. If i use M roads i get 420miles at a steady 80mph.
