Advice on waxing/sealing to a new car

Featured Replies

Will be picking up my new 08 Octy VRS estate in Race blue in March and it will look great brand new (well off the transporter and after a wipe over at the dealer probably!).

My question is, is it worth waxing/sealing or whatever to the car as soon as you recieve it from the dealer?

If so, what would you guys recomend, I will be doing it myself, with elbow power and not a polishing machine.

I'm a lazy git and the idea of putting in the initial effort of applying a decent sealant/wax or whatever all over (particularly on the wheels) when it is sparkling clean out of the showroom on day 1 or 2, will save me time later and make it easier to keep clean and re-apply wax/sealant at later dates.

Your advice on the merits of an initial treatment and the products you would use are appreciated.

Thanks, from a soon to be first time skoda owner.

Collinite 476 or 915 at just over £20. Will last you six months if looked after properly.

Id polish using Auto glym deep polish

Then seal using auto glym sealent

And then id wax it using collinite 476s wax.

Get the dealer to do as little as possible regards cleaning it as they will just put scratches all over it.

You'll need to clay it first and try to cleanse the paintwork to get anythink stuck on off even what you can't see. there will be contaminates right from the factory.

You shouldn't really need to polish but if you want to you can't really go to wrong with Autoglym Super Resin Polish by hand then a sealant followed by a good wax like something from Collinite 476 or 915.

Remember that the wax is the final stage and if you dont do the previous processes carefully enough then you will just wax over the top and trap them in.

When the sun comes out these will stand out like a sore thumb.

You could always get your new car detailed by a professional from new and it will look the dogs whatsits.

I tend to go for:

Megs DC1,

Couple of coats of TurtleWax Gloss Guard

A couple of coats of Colli 476s

that combination is lasting well for me and looks good too IMHO :)

I'm with Al, and wouldn't let the dealer anywhere near the paintwork on my new car! But I'm perhaps a little over-protective :)

I wouldn't polish personally, just claybar then perhaps a paint cleaner depending on the feel of the paint after the clay's been done. Then a sealant (I like the Jeff's Prime range) and a couple of coats of wax. In this case, I'll recommend Collinite 476S as well :)

And of course, let's see some photos when you get it :D

If your going to be doing it by hand then IMO Klasses All in One first then Klasses sealant. The AIO will help remove any transportation wax residue before you apply the sealant. Very easy to use.

As said in above post's i wouldnt let the dealer wash your car for you.

As mentioned I think the key is to instruct the dealer not to touch it really then use the right products, some good ones mentioned above.

Thanks for all the advice guys. Will have a word with the dealer when he phones to confirm delivery date and get ready with the products you suggest.

Some detailing companies offer a good 'new car detail' service ensuring your car is 100% when you get it and not that some valeter on a forecourt has buffed it up with his favorite brillo pad.

for circa £300 its worth it on a spanker, and you get a good 6 months of protection too.

for instance polished blisses new car detail is on this page: Detailing Services - Standard Services and he works in conjunction with the dealer, possibly someone in your neck of the woods offers a similar service.

check A world for detailers... and theres a variety of pro's.

cheers

Derek

Agree with Bigw2069 here - for brand new car, I would absolutely get someone to prepare and protect the car for you.

Glyn does this service from Elite detailer, and he is superb :)
