Featured Replies

Probably going to get written off cause someone hit it last Friday

Depending on the age, maybe not. :)

New rear bumper

New light lens

I imagine a bodyshop will pull out the arch and make that good

New filler cap

Might not be a write off. :)

It's a 51 reg.

Bought for £1800

I reckon it'll be written off. It was accident repaired on the front sometime in it's life too.

Thats worth buying back and fixing imho, but only if you know its a decent car.

That wheel looks a bit suspect as well!

Probably not worth it, from the insurance company's point of view. As said, could be worth buying back and sorting it, if you know the rest of it's in decent nick :)

I also think the wheel looks a bit suspect, but it might just be because the tyre is flat. If it's worth a lot to him, then he'd probably be better off trying to get some quotes to have it repaired and see how that sits with the going rate of buying an equivalent one.

Oooh, that's cold...

Its prob worth letting it getting written off to be honest then stripping it of anything valuable before whacking it all on fleabay :rofl::rofl:

What hit him out of interest?

It could be fixed but as per the above posts - It's just not worth it.

definite write off there.

cost of parts will be massive due to them being dealer prices, easily a few hundred quid on the light, bumper, bump strips, filler cap etc then there will be another £500 on paint(they will paint from the front door round to all the bootlid), then probably 10hours work to get that wing straight and filled at easily £50 ph so my estimate of an insurance repair is in the region of £1500 -£2000 and you only have to hit around 60% of the cars value for it to be written off sadly and is a 6 year old vectra worth £3000?

no.

I hate vectras, so am always pleased to see one trashed.

In this case i think your policy of strip it and let them write it off seems like the right thing to do. WRT that wheel , to me it looks like the suspension is broken there as the thing seems well in the arch and just generally in an odd place.

No point trying to repair that.

 remind me never, ever show you my car then ;)

i would say thats definatley a write off. that rear wheel looks way out of line. they tried to write my SWMBO's vectra off for a front drivers wing and wing mirror!! at that was worth about the same as that one. what spec is it? might be worth buying off the insurance company. whats the engine etc?

It's a 1.8LS

The 1.8 16v Ecotec engine, a/c, em, pas, abs, elec front windows, 98k miles

He bought it for £1800

Body shop to straighten out the panel, bumper from a breakers yard and probably a pair of rear shockers/springs depending on damage and 1 wheel.

Not sure to be honest mate.

Considering the front was repaired, it spent more time in the shop after he bought it. All the niggles had to be addressed like the key holes ,elec mittor switches and a new air con rad.

I'd def say it'd be worth writing off then break for parts.

If it was straight panel damage then maybe worth repairing.

My Felicia was borderline write off last year and luckily that was just a rear panel. But since the other party was paying I opted for the new panel. Plus I had just had the rear speakers installed and the car was running well.

I'd recommend that car be written off and he buys a Skoda ;)

sadly then not worth saving. if you got the space and time stick it on ebay as breaking for bits. might make a decent amount from it that way
