door damage

Featured Replies

The wife opened the door on my VRS today and a bloody great gust of wind slammed the door into a wall. It has chipped the door handle dented the rubbing strip and put a slight six inch long crease in the door. How much are the rubbing strips ?

best to phone your dealer and ask. It'll need painting too won't it?

I thought you were going to ask "how much for a new wife?" ;)

Tough luck, damn wind is so strong! Hope you get it fixed cheap...

Yes, it will. Mines like yours a race blue VRS. I had a price to repair a few other bits of collateral damage, which includes a dented rear bumper. Dent in the bonnet, where a tin fell of a shelf in the garage and a minor dent in the passenger door. £250 which I thought was pretty good. This will bump it up to about 350 I reckon.

I'll ring Benfield in Harrogate

Thing is they complain and reckon you are getting precious when stuff like this happens.

Nowt really I suppose but the damage is just bad enough to p!ss me off. I can't leave it.

Yet it is too little to put through insurance.

I think I will go smash her hair dryer up

Reminds me of that advert on the telly where the woman crashes the guy's remote control plane cause he used his leg to close the door of her car.

This reminds me of the time, about 8 years ago, when following a thorough valeting of my car in preperation for sale, SHMBO took it up to the local Tescos.

On her return to the car, a passenger of an adjacent car (needless to say, a woman) opened her door and the wind caught it and it hit my drivers door, resulting in a 3" dent. :thumbdwn:

When SJMBO got home and explained what happened, I said "so you got her details, right?". The response was "she was quite old and just smiled".

Since that day, SHMBO only gets to drive my car if, a) I'm over the limit or B) it's a day without a 'y' in it :D

I lent my wife my MX5 once to drive to work in Macclesfield in - she went to the pub at lunchtime in it, came out (sober I might add), couldn't find reverse but got 1st instead - straight into a hedge!

She was in tears when she got home and was telling me:( but it was still a ling time before she got another go!

I let SWMBO drive my Mk1 Octy about 2 years ago and the next time I clapped eyes on it there was a deep gouge in the nearside rear door.

To this day I don't know what happened to it

Having worked at Peter Coopers body shop for a while (VAG), repainting normally comes in at £500 per panel, cheaper at non franchise paint shops though. Depends if you also want the surrounding panels blended to match the respray as well, as it can never be guaranteed that the paint mix is exactly the same, as its just that, a mix, rather than a set paint.

I have just had a quote for the damage by a guy I know to be VERY good at PDR stuff. He has just started up on his own doing the paintless dent repair outside his day job at a bodyshop.

He has also given me a bloody good price for some re painting and repair work on my rear bumper. He did some paint work on my last Octavia and it was very good.

I took the side out of my Octavia as I drove it of the forecourt, brand new last year. It was repaired by a VAG shop, but i was never entirely happy with the job, the finish was too glassy. Why do they over polish?

Thank goodness my wife cant drive..............

Exactly what I was thinking.........................

I think you will find that most peoples wives can't drive, even if they do have a licence.

What is that group of ladies with machine guns doing outside your front door?
