Passenger mirror curb parking function

Featured Replies

Does anybody have this feature? It's supposed to tilt the mirror when engaging reverse, and return it to the original position once over 15 kmh.

I don't have this function because around here (at least) you can only order it with the memory seats package, which is rather expensive, really.

I am also interested in finding out how the mirror motors are controlled in order to develop my own module for this function.

I reckon I can get the tilt/return signal from the reverse gear and send the same kind of command along the wire to the mirror that the door switch does.

Some pics of the back of the door switch would help make things clear, in case somebody has some too.

I think you'll struggle to do this without memory seats, as you have to program both the normal forward position and the tilted reverse position via the memory buttons on the seat. You also need to leave the mirror adjust button on the kerbside mirror to activate it.

Have to admit I'd not heard of this feature before. Is it offered on octavias and if so what models?

thanks!

IIRC the auto function is only with memory seats. As standard (or at least on my vRS);-

Just turn the mirror adjust kn0b to 'L' and manually adjust as required.

Revert to normal position when reversing completed.

OR if you're going into a space in a car park with white lines to mark the space; use the 'R' position of the kn0b, it adjusts both mirrors together.

I hope to investigate it soon, I already ordered new set of mirrors and hope to activate it without memory seat. I suppose, that this feature need mirrors from electric seat version because in this case mirros include variable resistors for feedback about current position of mirrors.

And of course coding - for Comort Electronic (46) and passenger door module

Practice result will be coming soon

manually adjust as required.

Thank you, but I'm tired of doing that. I take about 5-8 short trips each day. I have to reverse when I come/leave home and at most of the places I go.

I already ordered new set of mirrors and hope to activate it without memory seat.

I'll take a different aproach and just build a module linked to the mirror control line and the reverse contact in the gear shifter.

It should be just a simple timer, supposed to tilt the mirror down for X seconds when engaging, then in the opposite direction again for X seconds when reverse is disengaged.

It is not OEM solution, which I like :))In you case mirror will move down and up each time when you will change direction of moving on parking, in my case - mirror will rise only in case of forward moving with speed higher than 15 km\h.

I recommend you to try to make right coding for electronics - may be it will work without any modification of harware. If not - we will compare result of our practive experience. If I am right - you may just buy "interior" of left mirror with variable resistors inside.

( I drive LHD as well :) )

I thought of coding in the adjustable mirrors, but it seems the OEM solution uses the seat memory module to store everything including the mirror positions.

In my case, I will make things a bit more primitive and just tell it to move either direction for a period of time. 20 mins of testing the idea with a stopwatch in the car says it works.

I can easily build in a 10-15 second delay before tilting the mirror back up, so that should be sorted as well. Ooor.. I can use the GALA information feed, the one that tells the stereo to turn up the volume and imitate the OEM job.

I thought the seat memory controller stored the X-Y position of the mirrors or how would it know where to position the mirror during and after reversing?

I think NO, because on Russian market you can order lowering mirror on Golf V without (!) memory seat. I checked coding and part numbers on such Golf - Can gateway, comfort module and passenger door module totally the same as in our Octavia II and lowering working without (!) memory seat module. I think, position of mirror for lowering store in door electronic module.

So you will need to set "lowering mirror" option in Comfort electronic module and set "Memory seat installed" in door electronic module. Of course, you will get fault code "communication with memory seat module is lost" (because no seat module installed in car), but lowering will work (may be in case of mirror with variable resistors inside) - I saw it in Golf V with factory installed option "lowering mirror with reverse gear" (funny that fault code about "communication with memory seat module is lost" is OK in this case).

I will check this setting in my vRs tomorrow - firstly for usual mirrors without variable resistors. I think lowering will not work. Than on next week I plane to get exterior mirrors with some options (like ambient lights, autodimming and variable resistors) and check the lowering after installation

It would be interesting to see whether you can read the mirror X-Y positions in VAG-COM WITHOUT the memory seat installed.

My opinion of course is just theory, but I saw some VW Golf V without memory seats and with lowering mirror with totaly the same electronics like in Octy.

May be X-Y position and variable resistors are not necessary for lowering and the problem is in just coding. I will check it soon. I will write here about the results.

If they don't use a memory module, which is possible, then the OEM function is pretty much what I thought of. Lower it for X sec, then tilt it back up for the same X sec.

I think I'll just use a combo of dipswitches to set how low to drop it.

me and vrstu tried this on my sport as i was promised by the lying salesman that it would come with it. basically its only on high spec cars with memory seats. we tried to activate it with vagcom but couldnt do it.

Today I makes right coding and it is NOT work with standart mirrors. I even got new menu in Maxidot for "MIRROR DOWN" but physically mirror NOT lowering.

OK. Next step is to implement L&K mirrors with X-Y position feedback. I will do it on next weekend. I will let you know.

  • 3 weeks later...

In my OII I the mirror does tilt when reverse is engager as lond as the mirror switch is tuned to the R side. Now the strange thing is that it doesn't tilt back up if I don't place the switch to the Neutral position (O). Is this a configuration problem or is this normal?

Sorry. Wrong thread. Please disregard.
