VAG engines

Featured Replies

Whio actually develops the engines?

Is it Audi or VW?

And will we be seeing a full in house Skoda powerplant anytime soon?

Not that I'm saying theres anything wrong with VW powerplants but it would be good seeing some more Skoda in there.

Are they not built in Czech?

From memory the 100PD TDi engine used in the Mk1 Fabia was developed by Skoda (albeit from a VAG base) and was subsequently adopted by VW and Audi - so in theory you already have!

I've often wondered about the whole VAG thing - who has the final say about what bits each of the marques can use, e.g. who said, "no Skoda you can't have DSG in the VRS", who decides that as VW designed the 1.4 TSI they can have sole use of it for 12 months, then let Audi have it then probably after another 12 months let Skoda and SEAT have use of it?

How does it all work?

Edit: Isn't the 1.2 HTP engine an out and out Skoda design ??

The whole business is called VAG corporate marketing. The idea is to maximise profit on every development. The usual course of action is to offer the most "customer desirable" fitments on Audis, then work down the range. Skoda and Seat are at the bottom of the pile.

Of course, when they make a ****-up such as the 2 litre PD diesel engines, this can work in your favour if you buy a Skoda (they used up the last of the 1.9 engines before changing).

The one uniform VAG characteristic is that the dealers are mostly rubbish.

rotodiesel.

What was the **** up with the 2.0l pd tdi??

He might be refering to the 2.0 pd 8v which was fitted to the superb IIRC. Problems with DPF's rings a bell ;)
