Colour coded grille surround

Featured Replies

I've seen various posts here where folk have done this mod for themselves, however anyone know if it is possible to by a replacement surround already done or anyone know somewhere that would do it?...I don't trust myself with a spray can!!!

Can't buy the grille surround pre painted; but you should be able to get your dealer or any bodyshop to spray a chrome one for you. I did.

Every body shop I spoke to said the paint wouldn't take to the chrome and that a lot of prep work would be required and hence it would be expensive to do.

I tried spraying one myself that I'd keyed into but to be honests didn't make a very good job of it so I stripped it back again. Keep meaning to take it to get sprayed as the prep work is done more or less now.

so getting it sprayed by a pro is like £30-50... hmm...what does a new OEM grille surround cost?

About £50 for the grill surround. I'd be suprised if you can get it properly prepared and sprayed for under £50 though although I'd like to be proven wrong. I was quoted over £150 by one bodyshop and a number of others reckoned it couldn't be done.

Asked at my local bodyshop, known the owner for years. He told be that it would need all the chrome stripping off and back to the plastic, then primer, then painting. He quoted me £125. Anyone think thats a good price?

if you get the chrome off yourself and primer it, fine a body shop that deals with skodas and ask them if they could spray it next time they spraying a car in the same colour as you want. The cost of spraying is the setting up and dismantling, once they set up and doing the same colour there is little cost. Might mean you have to wait a few months but i reckon it be cheaper.

Yes, I did in the end although I've since sold the car!

the body shop i spoke to said they would quite happily spray it without stripping it back

Had mine done last summer by a guy who lives opposite me who has his own Bodyshop.

He did a fantastic job.

I have a spare surround, I could get him to spray it you and sell you the complete package.

Pm if your interested.

Cheers

Damian
