front tyres

Featured Replies

Need 2 knew tyres for the front, octy 2001 tdi elegance dont do more than speed limits, looked at toyo and pirelli6000 but what ive seen on the internet as far as reviews are concerned pirelli6000 have had very mixed reviews wondered what yourselves thought of them i dont drive hard but i would be glad of any thoughts

you might have on pirelli.

i never buy 'named' expensive tyres think it really is a load of rubbish i buy cheaper end and still feel secure on the road.

Cue the barrage of abuse

You can get branded tyres for almost the same price as cheapo crap if you shop around.

I just got some Uniroyal Rainsports for 57 quid fitted in 205/55/16W size which is what the Octy needs - much better than some chinese tat

I've got federal all round on mine. They cost me about forty five fitted each. This is my second set, The first set of fronts lasted about 10000 miles, and i drive pretty hard on a lot of twisty b roads. They give good dry grip and are very good in the wet and pretty quiet on the motorway. Have had no issues with them at all. When i first bought the car it had brand new dunlop sports and i had one blow out on the motorway (bit of a scary moment) and two sidewall failures. They are around twice the price of the federals. Why not look at the 'which' survey on best tyres and see what they suggest, last time i looked the best all round tyre was vredestein which is a dutch company. :)

Interesting theory. So in light of many tyre tests they are still wrong then? Its wrong to scrimp on tyres as they can really affect amongst other things braking distance, handling, and so on...

I agree so strongly, people say they only do the speed limit, but If a young child ran out in front of me at 30mph I'd want to know I did everything possible to stop. And putting cheap tyres on is a bad start. I've gone for Vredestein sportrac 3's after rave reveiws and at only 80 quid a tyre - they're cheap and safe. First impressions very impressive.

Presently running Toyo Proxes T1-Rs, cost me about £72 a corner, fitted, balanced, new valves and old tyres disposed of.

I don't make a habit of running above speed limits, but that doesn't stop me cornering on the door handles!

Those Toyo T1-Rs are good tyres. I just wish I was paying £31 a tyre like my old car...love 195/50/15s!

Local garage has quoted £111.63 all in for 2 pirelli 6000 i dont think i will get much better than that Thankyou for all your comments, there is a lot of wisdom spoken on this site thanks again.

The p6000s arent the best, Id avoid these.

i just put on 225 45 17's y £160 all in...

savin up for another 2... :(

I always use Kumho Ecsta KU31 cost me £45 inc vat for 205/55vr16. as stated before the only thing between you and the road is the tyres, fit the best you can afford

Which make?

Have a look on a site called "blackcircles.co.uk" They sell cheap fully fitted tyres via local tyre fitters! I would say that the Toyo's T1Rs are number one in my book, but a V shape tyre hates the snow!!!! But when was the last really big snow that we had? The only other thing that I would do, if not now but later is to have the same tyres all round the car, as the Toyo's are so grippy that the car will just girp ton's on the front and be really tail happy at the back!!!!!!...lol

ive been quoted £56 all in per tyre for toyo CF1 if that makes any sence what are yor thoughts on those .

I had those on the front of my last car; gave me neutral to mild oversteer with the rears I was running. Go for it.

Out of interest, what tyres would you recommend, how do you drive and what are you comparing them to? I would certainly agree with you on avoiding named expensive tyres after my experiences with the ludicrously expensive Michelin Primacies and Conti SP 1's & 2's which perform and last significantly worse than tyres costing half their price. Tyre choice is also a very personal thing and also appears to vary depending on the car they're installed on.

I can't comment on the specific tyres you name, but I agree in principle with everything else you say.

thats it before my brain blows up im going for the toyo CF1 it seems to have everything i want from a tyre, good in the wet quiet and good grip thanks to you all for your advice .

Interesting theory - does this mean you have several sets of tyres at your disposal so you can fit the best ones for the current prevailing weather conditions you'll be driving in, or do you scrimp and run your car on a single set of summer tyres all year round?

Chris

Well, considering we barely have a winter nowadays...I should in theory have a set of rain tyres on there but the F1s are good enough all rounders IMO.

but the F1s are good enough all rounders IMO.

Well that's ok then - as long as they're "good enough". Wouldn't want to be scrimping now ;)
