1.4 TDI PD Ambiente

Featured Replies

Im thinking of this car as a "stand in" untill the new vRS Fabia`s arrives

Would it be worth re mapping? and what would it cost?

Thanks

SUper chips £499. Mind you given purchase price is somewhere near £3-4k thats over 10% on a modification and looking around at that price range there are plenty of 100bhp 1.9's so whats the point.

cheaper tax, insurance, better fuel, and someone I know is gonna be after a 1.4TDi later in the year. Im looking at spending about £5K only need it till the next vRS comes out

The 1.4TDI is 61mpg combined

The 1.9 TDI 105bhp is 57mpg combined

Say you will cover 10,000 miles over the year you will be saving a 52ltrs or £56 in fuel and VED is £35 v £115, Ins is £10 more.

IMHO there is a premium for the 1.4TDI's 2nd hand due to the low VED and people willingly pay that without realising thefact your saving so little

Sounds familiar

Is the 1.4TDI your topic of the day Welshy?

Fair point there

I thought the 1.4TDI may be the more economical engine though.

Provided it's not driven too harshly etc it may give better returns although it make ssense getting the larger one for longer motorway cruises.

TBH I wouldn't bother re-mapping the engine personally though.

For £5k you could buy the 1.9TDI 100 instead of the 1.4 75BHP diesel and remapping that to 100BHP.

Wouldn't having a chipped 1.4 TDI negate the insurance advantage over a 1.9 (or most of it at least)?

Why not buy a VRS till the new VRS comes out (if that ever actually happens)

Failing that you could buy a Seat Ibiza Sport TDI 130 they are in this price range - YES I know its not a Skoda and this is a Skoda forum but its a vaild point.

That was original plan, just I can`t find the perfect one

Its about 5mpg difference - and the 1.9 is a much smoother engine - at that age get the 1.9 as its only the new 1.4 80s that get the cheaper tax band B - the other two are both the same from Y reg onwards as they are both in band C...

We had a 1.4 TDI Polo and a 90BHP TDI Ibiza at one point. The Ibiza was a little quicker, and on fuel economy I'd say they were about the same- 48-50. I'd say the 1.4 *could* be more economical, but you'd have to drive it gently. The 1.4 engine is a cracker, but don't expect a massive economy gain.

Buy my vRS... its not perfect but its cheap :D
