Headlamp bulb upgrades?

H4

The Philips Vision Plus from Powerbulbs are excellent on full beam

I've always thought the stock bulbs on my Fabia's main beam were pretty good, especially on a deserted dual carriageway at night when you can light up a good 1/4 mile of road like a runway. Or maybe its just that my last two cars were French...?

  • 2 weeks later...

I ordered from Powerbulbs.com - They don't have a lookup for Octavia on their website so I sent them a mail asking which bulb type for my 2001 Octavia, they wrongly replied:-

Hello Neil

Thanks for your interest in Powerbulbs

Your Octavia uses H7 type lamps

Thanks

John

So I proceeded to order H7 type - I personally would have plumped for H4, but thought they know best. I've since informed powerbulbs.com of their mistake and their reply is:-

"According to our guide the Octavia 96 onwards takes H7's for low beam and H4's for high

We will look into this with the manufacturers as this is where the information comes from."

Moral of the story is if you want bulbs for your Occy - order H4 type, not H7! Best bet, just to be sure - pull one out of the car's headlamp (remembering not to touch the glass of course) and read the H number on it.

I now have my Osram Silverstars installed from Powerbulbs. First impressions - almost no night driving since - the clocks went back just after I put them in, are that they are very nice and sharp on dipped, not so hot on main beam.

HI,

I PUT THE PHILIPS BULBS INTO MY FABIA TDI AFTER THEY WON AN AUTO EXPRESS TEST.

I HAVE TO SAY THAT I CAN REALLY TELL THE DIFFERENCE AND IT WAS MONEY WELL SPENT. THE PHILIPS WEBSITE IS NOT ALWAYS THE CHEAPEST PLACE TO GET THEM FROM THOUGH.

WOOLY

Welcome to Briskoda, Wooly, and nice to receive some helpful input in your first post! :D

Just ordered another pair of silver indicators for the front, so expect some more photos online next week at some point :-)

Welcome Wooly, btw!
