Setting up dvd recorder with tele - problem

Featured Replies

Hi, after a little help again please if anyone can.

A relative has just got a dvd recorder (phillips) and I am having problems setting it up with his television. I have connected all leads correctly but cannot get the channels to tune in.

The instructions state how to connect a cable/sattelite box inbetween the dvdrecorder and the tele and i am doing this all correctly but as he does not have cable/sattelite I am trying to connect a "digi box" in this way.

Are dvd recorders compatible with digi boxes (ones that convert the analogue ariel signal to get more channels) or does it have to be either a Cable or sattelite box?

I am usually quite good with stuff like this and the only thing i can think of is that these things dont work with digi boxes.

Any help greatly appreciated cheers.

DVD recorders typically have 2 scart sockets on the back, one labled TV and the other maybe labeled something like AV1.

Connect the TV connection to the TV, and the one marked something like AV1 to the digibox using the scart lead that is most likely connected between the tv and digibox.

There is nothing to tune in, so this maybe where you are going wrong. Using the the dvd remote you need to find the input selector and press it until it says AV1 (for example). Turn on the digibox if not already and you should get a picture.

I cheated on mine.

I took the tv out on the digi box to the av in on the dvd recorder, and the the tv out on the dvd to the tv.

This way, the signal gets through both, but you might have to have the dvd recorder on just to watch the digi box.

As above, run your digibox scart > dvd recorder input, then run scart from dvd output > tv. Just remember that all recordings on dvd recorder are made from L1 (line 1) ie the signal inputted from digibox and not from any of the analogue channels listed in dvd recorder, you will also need to indipendantly set the digibox to the desired channel when recording. You will need a second digibox if you want to watch one channel whilst recording another.

Thanks for the help. Did not get the chance to try any of these things as the owner decided to take it back to the shop.

Turns out it was a dvd recorder for analogue only!

He now has exchanged it for a digital one which should hopefully be ok.

Will bear in mind all above advice if there are any problems with it but im expecting this one to be ok.

Cheers.
