Havn't timed it but think my pc takes just under a minute from first switching it on to it being useable (Vista Home Premium).

Would defintely think about an upgrade if its taking 15 minutes to boot up!!!

Oh and speaking of multi-tasking... a bit of video converting going on:

So how come you can afford all this all-singing, all-dancing computer technology, but you're still driving a Felicia .... :P

I don't think I would get rid of this computer but simply add a new lap top. I long to be comfortably in bed typing instead or downstairs with the puppy in the evening. I may try some of those options to try and clean things up a bit and see if it does any good.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions and your help. :)

Edit...well that's everyone apart from R.J. :D

I am still wanting to get another computer but havn't got around to it yet. I really want a lap top and to go wireless. My computer is very old now I suppose and the one thing that frustrates me is how long it takes from switching it on until it's actually ready to use. I think I was sad enough to time it once and it took about fifteen minutes, is this usual or unthinkably slow?

Also, what is it that I need to be concentrating on to make sure the new one has a faster boot up time?

Thanks :)

I have tried to use my lappy in bed, but it gets awfully hot and I think it probably sucks a lot of dust and feathery bits into itself. I tried to put it on a tray but then it was uncomfortable. The best compromise seemed to be to put it on a table by the bed and use a wireless keyboard on the bed. They are fairly cheap, very light and don’t get hot. You can also use it in the bath!!!! (the killjoys will tell you that the extra moisture/steam/badedas fragrance, doesn’t help the laptop much though)

After all I've done for you over the past 50 years as well! How very dare you!

Secondary laptop is a good idea... but that won't speed up your pc at all! hehe
