Bad Vibrations

Featured Replies

I've had my 06 Octavia vrs for just over 2 weeks now and have just noticed a large increase in front end vibration, under acceleration only, from 60mph. The car has 35k on, was bought from a Skoda main dealer after just having its 40k service and has the remainder of Skoda warranty.

I was just wondering if this sounds normal / familiar to anyone - as this is the only mk2 vrs I have driven. The car is smooth up until 60mph.

Cheers

Certainly isn't normal so I would take it back to your dealer.

May be warped break disks

Yeah, it's gonna go back for them to have a look at, it's just got me baffled 'cos it's only under acceleration - is ok when cruising.

Just wondered if anyone else had come accross a similar problem?

Would there be a bad buckle in the front wheels?

May be, it's going back into the dealer on monday so I'll let them worry about it!

Thanks for the suggestions.

Don't let them fob you off with it does that on all of them sir

Could be a wheel out of balance due to a weight falling off.

that's just what I was about to suggest!

Probably just needs to have the front wheels balanced, if driving around in tight circles makes no noises or results in a bumpy ride.

I was also going to suggest a wheel imbalance. My old Fabia had a vibration when I accelerated down slip roads on motorways, this turned out to be a wheel weight whch had fallen off.

When I bought the car it had an odd tyre on the drivers side front (compared to the other three), I think the prev owner must have replaced 1 by itself, instead of the pair, at some pont. The passenger side front was a new tyre so I insisted on a new matching tyre for the drivers side too, to replace the odd one out.

This got fitted a week after I got the car, but because i hadn't done much in the car until a recent long motorway run i don't know if the vibration was there before or not.

I checked the drivers side front and there's 90g of balance on the wheel, this seems a bit excessive for a standard wheel (18 zenith).

The tire was probably replaced after hitting a bad pothole, or ruining it driving over tram tracks, or similar.

This probably damaged the alloy on the back or inside faces (beneath the rubber) where it isn't visible.

You can exchange the back and front wheels until this is fixed, if this really bothers you.

Just got back from the garage after they balanced all wheels and the vibration seems to have gone. Even if it did take an hour and a half to do it! Ha. It's the first time I've had such problems with balancing, I must've just been lucky in the past!

Well done; QED.

Mind you; an hour and a half to balance 4 wheels - a bit slow ; I'd expect 45 mins stop to start.
