Sunroof transplant

Featured Replies

From one car to another.

Ignoring the wiring side of things, and assuming full access to both vehicles, what would be the best way of getting a sunroof out & the cut made into the 'other' car's roof to make this a watertight sunroof :)

Just toying with the idea and how feasible it is :)

edited to add the car is a Fabia Mk1

expensive and a nigthmare mate. doubt they could make a standard one fit.

you probably have better result making the car into a cabloret!!

I would say the best way to achive this would be to swap a section of the roof out including the SR and weld it into the estate. Hugely expensive and very possibly not worth it.

Hmm sounds like a no go then, depending on that last option hehe ;)

If you were doing a hatch to hatch roof transplant wouldnt be too diffecult to cut and weld together, Might loose a little ridgidity on the way

Prolly more hassle than its worth on the estate. Plus glass weighs more that metal, the sunroof would only add weight to the car. ;)

Indeed, I think you'd need to cut a healthy section of the roof out.

For the best finished article you'd need to source an estate with sunroof headlining.

Shouldn't be *that* difficult tbh, but unless you are friendly with a GOOD bodyshop, I wouldn't even consider it :)

We had a sunroof added to an old car, but it was an aftermarket pop up one.

I think in terms of putting the factory one in, you would need to get the hole cut exactly to size, the correct OEM gaskets and a headlining from the estate with a sunroof as the whole thing needs to drop lower at the back so the glass can slide.

There there is the question of how it's mounted. Think you might be better off selling the sunroof and looking at an after market one for probably less cash if you really wanted one.

Was just toying with the idea - it's a lot of hassle and basically the control unit doesnt appear to match either, so guessing it wont be happening ;)
