Anyone running LPG?

Featured Replies

How much does it cost to get a professional lpg conversion?

Is anyone running LPG?

Would it have a negative effect on the engine output?

Don't do it.

Im not planning on it mate, im just curious to see the end results.

Howcome your against it?

Ey DT,changing the subject totally but while you are 'ere, any news on you know wot?

I Had long discusions with Skoda before buying the Diesel, Basically LPG will mean no warranty.

Cost for a decent kit was about

Dont do it! Did it on a Land Rover and it was nothing but trouble. One of the firms I use for disability conversions in the past did nothing but lpg. Now they wont touch it with a barge pole. As he says all the current set-ups are more than a bit heath robinson!!! Never really took off so no decent aftermarket kits at a reasonable price.

I was under the impression that the latest sequential injection systems where pretty dam good. Cost is another thing though?

I'm still considering it at the moment, there are two systems that seem to be good, Prins VSI and Beacon Pharos but they are

If you are really serious try researching what they do on the Continent. Thereare a lot more cars running it there so might give you more ideas, Try PM ing Dutch 4x4 as he might know a bit being the other side of the River as they say

Personally I think unless you do very high mileage its a waster & even then Diesel is the answer. LPG adds nothing to resale value & will probably put some people off, also you get about 10% less power, a heavier car with a smaller boot due to the tank & have to search more for garages. If you go for the tank that replaces the spare wheel remember they havent got the best of range.

LPG is really worth considering though if you have Bottled/Tank gas at home for heating etc, its the same stuff but you dont pay fuel duty on it if you get my drift !!! If you go this route dont tell the supplier what you are using it for as they are legally not allowed to sell it to you, also get an in line filter on the re fuelling line, the Gas is always good but a lot of the tanks have crap in them. A lot of the aparently new bulk tanks you get are actually old tanks re-sprayed.

If your supplier queries the amount of gas you are using you are refuelling a Friends Hot Air balloon arent You ! Again same stuff & tax free

Fit a pump if you can as this dramatically speeds up re fuelling

AND MOST IMPORTANT always refuel outside & preferably on a windy day.NEVER do it in a confined space, the gas is heavier than air & will creep across the ground until it finds something to ignite it, the resulting fire will last a split second but its enough to melt Nylon Jackets etc. The gas is highly flamable & static is enough to Ignite it, thats the second reason not to where Nylon clothes.

OK sounds a tadge worrying but if you are careful you can save an absolute fortune !

LPG is really, really common in Holland, and is just as reliable as diesel or petrol. You can fill up everywhere you like and dealers sell LPG cars straight from the manufacturer. However, the UK is still in its infancy with the 'advanced technology' and as such you'll strugle to find filling up locations, decent installers or garages willing to service it. A bit of a chicken and egg problem... No demand, no supply. No supply, no demand.

I don

I've been running an Octavia VRS on LPG for over 12 months. There's no perfomance loss at all and i'm saving a ton of money. LPG is less than 1/2 the price of petrol.

There are too many people out there who base their comments about this fuel not on sound research but on what some bloke said in the pub.

There are a couple of simple rules to follow when looking at LPG. Firstly make certain the system is compatible with the car's ECU, and secondly don't let anyone who is not LPGA approved anywhere near your treasured vehicle. A proper conversion will cost upwards of

Wouldnt dis agree with you on any of that, I know people running it & one person who has his own private supply (same gas as central heating!)

Only down side is Skodas attitude which was LPG = NO WARRANTY & there was absolutely no movement on that. I tried all the "they all use it on the continent" arguments but they would not budge so we went Diesel route

Is the fuel discount duty level not being removed soon?

Might be way of, but is then going to be taxed about the same as unleaded and diesel?

One benefit of europe and joining in properley is it would abolish all these chinese walls of you can; they can't rubbish, maybe.

Yes you're right sort of. If you phone Skoda they'll say the warranty is invalidated however, I've had a number of items replaced under warranty and there has never been an issue. Legally if the modification damages the car then they can walk way. If the door falls off they can't. Land Rover lost a recent court case over this issue.

Here we go again.. pub rumours!

LPG is part of the government's 'Alternative Fuels Framework' which mean the duty is effectively fixed for three years (until 2007) in March the duty will be set for 2008 and so on. There were a lot of these rumours banded about last year

The reason LPG is priced at 40p or so is because it is environmentally much better than Petrol and Diesel. The taxation level in roughly the same throughout europe.
