Porsche type acceleration....

Featured Replies

auto express mapped there fabia test car to 170bhp and in 6th gear 50-70 take 0.4s less than a porsche which is highly impressive and tested by them!!! :)

Using there stopwatch as timing gear.

Funny how it's only highly impressive to Fabia owners, to be .4 of a second quicker, and then after that, the porsche dissapears.

only saying what they say and to be honest speeds in excess of 100 are completely and utterly pointless it is exactly what the type r boys would say when having a race with a clio 182 etc well i passed him at 150 mph ha ha :)

I'm a Type-R boy, I wouldn't say that. Your point?

But why would a Porsche driver be in 6th gear doing 50-70?! Reminds me of the Top Gear test racing an Evo FQ against a Fiat Stilo ;)

If I was in a race, the first thing I'd do, is find the highest gear. :P

If I remember there was comparison to a lotus elise's 0-20 mph time.

Which I have to say must be one of the poorest comparisons ever.Who does 0-20 tests mean anything to?

Be realistic. ;) Even I know not to mess with Boxster S' (yet ;)) They are quite quick, and can put the power down much better than a vRS, whatever the state of tune.

My technique is to get in front, and then apply the brakes for the rest of the lap, making sure there are no overtaking opportunities.

What does the black flag mean? :o

Lol, I'm gonna give this a try on the next track day I do! Does it help if you swerve wildly back and forth all lap?! ;)

No, but it helps if you have some kind of self defence skills for after the race.... :P

but don't you liek that through, slow traffic then the dual carriageway comes up and you blast past with that accelartion, I can think of a couple of decent parts in edinburgh and east lothian way

I really need to have a play with a standard type r and see for myself ;)

lets not turn this into a fab vs. type r thread, theres 10 pages of that :thumbdwn:

I wouldnt bother mate. Coming back from the north west stages in blackpool me and my mate in a type r were having a blast coming out of the roundabot that leads onto the 55. Upto about the 11 and add another 0 onto that we we about the same, after that i pulled in to let him past.

Ive caught hm off vtec before and pushed him but just admit it, were not as quick. Snoopie is right

i am only messing mate but my point is that unfortunately sometimes the cars on everyday road situations are the same until you get to silly speeds and imao i think that is pointless to say my car is quicker faster etc etc when doing such speeds...anyway go on your own forum type r boy (only joking pal ) :)

Official figures state 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) takes 9.5 seconds, but several motoring magazines and websites have timed this to faster (around the 7.0-7.5 seconds) (Autocar: 7.1 seconds,[1] Auto Express: 8.1 seconds,[2] and FastHatchbacks.com: 8.5 seconds[3]). The in gear acceleration times are 50-70 mph in 5.6 seconds, quicker than BMW's 330i which needs 6.0 seconds. 20-40 mph in 2.4 seconds is as quick as the Lotus Elise 111R. Despite this the Fabia vRS can achieve better than 5.4 L/100 km (52 mpg imp/44 mpg US). If driven carefully, some drivers have experienced MPG rates of 68 mpg+ over long periods.
WIKIPEDIA!!!

P.s - I beat a Porsche before...

great find buddy

Why thank you kind sir ;)

wikipedia is rubbish :P

so are fabias but we all love them lol

Is it me or is this all pointless>?

Depends which part you are on about ;)

Well, I havent been spanked by much lately, although my mates golf 170 gt (petrol) was putting up a good fight as i scrabbled for grip the other night. ESP and DSG and a 1.4 (tsi) giving me a hard time. Who would have thunk it.

It's ok having good power, but if you can't put it to the ground, it's carp!
