Stone Chips

Featured Replies

I am finding that the paint work on my Furby vRS is not very resiliant when it comes to resisting stone chips.

My car is six months old and already has a number of chips on the bonnet & off-side.

I believe the water based paints that are used these days are not as durable as the old solvent based ones.

What are other peoples opinion/exprience on this ?

my black Octy has only 17k on it, and is starting to show more war wounds than an Iraqi wedding guest.

Quite worrying really, as it's going to need professionally touching-up pretty soon otherwise my pride and joy will end up looking like a council skip.

And thats without mentioning the marks on the windscreen.

I think Black is the worst colour for this problem! I've had other colours that haven't worn so badly.

I'm still trying to find the thing that the RS/scooby owners use lol

my red octy is chipping quite badly

To be honest the paint on our silver vRS is the worst I've ever seen in terms of durability. :thumbdwn:

I'm working on the premise that in 2 or 3 years if I still have the car I'll get the front bumper, wings and bonnet re-sprayed.

My 51 plate Octy vRS's front bumper & skirt looks like its been exposed to WWII flak! :(

do like this idea though :D ''I'm working on the premise that if I can get mine to go fast enough, the paint will melt and fill in the divets''

lol I like that idea!!!

Only done 7k in my octy (mainly motorway though)

Paint is now looking distinctly second hand.

Has anyone tried using those touch up pens or are they a waste of time?

I haven't, for many years now, but I strongly suspect that they'd end up giving your car the appearance and skin texture of one of those pimply-faced youths that they tend to employ in PC World and the likes ... :dopey:

Thats what I figured!

i used a touch up pen on my yellow furby, and they are ok as long as you have only got a few stone chips, if you have alot of them it would look crap. You have to look realy hard to notice where the chips were on mine after i used the touch up kit

they are fine on dullish/non met colours, don't even try it on black coz it stands out like a big spot on your face!! Well it does to me, but I seem to be a bit picky when it comes to paint work!!

Yea black car and I'm fussy about my paint too.

Looks like we'll all just go for HongKongPhooey's idea. :D

Chas,

Where did you get your Touch-up stick? I have been waiting for 3 weeks now for my local dealer to obtain a lemon yellow touch-up for my Furby vRS. That specific yellow colour I was told is unique to the vRS models. I find it hard to believe that other owners have not requested this colour from dealers. I did look in Halfords but they only seem to stock the popular Skoda colours.

Cheers Alan.

I got it from my local skoda dealer in Hamilton, i didnt have to order it as they had one left in stock.

i just received a twin pack of langka paint chip repair kit from http://www.langka.com/index2.htm. i tried it yesterday and its the biz, it works so well you can hardly see the repair now, cost me about

I find langka is too strong for skoda paint. It even took paint out of a touchup I did over a year ago. I wrote to Langka about this, and they agreed and suggested mixing the langka in a 1:1 solution of water.

Lemon Yellow is not specific to the Fabia vRS it appeared first on normal hatch and estate Fabias followed by the Octavia RS. I got my lemon yellow SKODA OE touchup nearly 3 years ago no problem. Lemon yellow is only used for Vrs models now as well as the Fabia estate now, they dropped it from the Fabia hatch prior to the Fabia vRS release.

i had no problems with the lanka on my skoda, took the blob away and left the paint in the chip

My black Octy vRS has literally dozens of chips after 38,000 miles, "Chipsaway" are coming out tomorrow to have a go at it, I'll report back later :)

Ive tried it on lemon yellow and was OK left the chip filled with the yellow touchup mat but blends pretty well. On my Mystery blue metalic I found the matting effect makes it more nortcable than just the touch up as it lightens the colour slightly.

Do you use a clear coat on top of the colour?

How long do you leave your touch up to dry before lankaing

I didnt use a top coat as the chips are quite small, i left the paint to dry for the minimum 2 hours as i was keen to try the lankga out
