Passat MOT today

Featured Replies

Well she failed...

Slightly annoyed really. I made them aware of the headlight alignment, but the tester managed to break the adjuster on the n/s headlight. These things happen and I'm sure I can fix that, may have just unclipped inside the unit.

Front brake flexi has a small area of cord exposed - needs replacement for sure, ho hum, its done 135k after all.

But what has irritated me immensly is the rear flexi hoses. Both have slightly collapsed where somebody (not while I've owned the car) has clamped the hoses. Fair enough, both pipes do need replacing, but the car has been MOTd by the same place since any work has been done to the rear brakes and passed... I've bought this up as a concern, and I'm pretty ****ed off. It wasn't originally tested by the same guy, and I'm assured words will be had. ;)

Still, looking at about £45 for parts, so not too expensive. Otherwise I was complimented on the condition of the car!:thumbup:

Not too bad then mate ;)

Hard Luck Tom. Goodluck with getting that sorted :)

Get rid of it and get a proper car you mincer

(wanna buy a Furby vRS?) :D

Errr, no Colin. Got the t-shirt etc etc...

Considering the mileage I think it could've been a whole lot worse, £45 doesn't sound too bad to me.

That isn't too bad, at least it's not £100's ;)

they broke the light and your gonna fix it?

i wouldn't stand for it myself tom, if they break it they fix it!

Generally parts for headlamps arn't available seperatly... you might be looking at price of a new headlamp unit Tom...

With Bengie on this one...

Nope, I disagree. Its not like its been damaged maliciosly... if I'd have tried to adjust it I'm sure it would have broken too... Either way, its a small local garage who ALWAYS look after me, so I'm not going to ruffle any feathers... ;)

Fixed the headlight last night, it had fallen off the adjusters, and then just propped up one corner with some cardboard... working just fine for now, a new headlight will be in order one day, but atleast its now a pass. :)

Had a nightmare of a day today with the brake hoses though.

The rear pipes werent correct, the metal pipes were completely the wrong shape, so bent them myself and got them so they are legal - the correct pipes will be fitted one day

Front pipe didn't turn up until 2pm, and it was the wrong one, replacement arrived at 4.15. Whizzed home and got it changed and back to the MOT station for 4.50 for its retest...

Up on the ramp, hard on the brake and fluid squirted to the other side of the workshop!! One of the washers had split on the new rear pipe banjos... These aren't even available separately.

So whizzed home, and have just finished fixing it, all fully tested and 100% working. Fingers crossed it will pass its retest tomorrow...

Please, for your own sake, make sure that all of the braking system is indeed working 100% correctly... we wouldn't want you to come back tomorrow and tell us how your brakes failed and you wrote off the passat / injured yourself! (this post isn't meant to be as patronising as it sounds, :D)

IT PASSED! :D:D:D:D

Advisory on security of rear lines, but I can sort that in due course by getting the correct pipes :)

Surely Tom, now you have spent some money on it and got it sorted, it's time to buy another sack of spanners to waste your money on?

We can't have you being sensible for too long can we?

Nice one Tom.

So whats the story about a Brisky member trashing his Passat?
