Recommend me a TV

Featured Replies

Ok... TVs are not my strong point, so I need some recommendations;

I have cira £500 to spend (can go a little higher, but again would like to spend a little less)

Needs to be a minimum of 32" (LCD) and have at least 1 HDMI(?) port to link up media center PC

Nice to have would be 1080P but I can make do with 1080i

I've seen the following which seem to tick all the boxes;

Samsung LE32R87BDX Bordeaux 32" LCD HD TV Black Freeview 1080i 1366x768 450cd/m2 8000:1 8ms HDMI - Ebuyer

and

Amazon.co.uk: Hitachi L37V01U - 37" Widescreen Full HD 1080P LCD TV - With Twin HDMI & Freeview: Electronics & Photo

Don't get one with a shiny gloss black surround is my only advice. I'm a TV numpty but bought an LG LCD and the reflections from the shiny black surround drive me mental.

Oh forgot to add... It needs to "look" nice and expensive and not a cheepo own brand

I'm a bit gadget vain :o

This looks like good value for money.......................

Samsung LE37R87BDX

If you go for Samsung be sure to get (free if poss) an extended warranty, they perform well but reliability can be an issue. With regards to wanting 1080p (full hd) I'm not sure they do a 32" with that resolution, its not necessary on a panel of that size. Panasonic do a 32" think code (off top of head) is tX32-LM70 (or LX variant more expense) should get one 'on budget'.

If you can stretch budget a wee bit, 600 odd quid, take a look at Panasonic PX-70 42" plasma, but be quick they're being replaced by 8th generation very soon. Not 1080p, but unless you have a specific requirement (x-box gaming etc) don't get wrapped up in the 'numbers game'. If you're on a diet of mainly standard def 1080p panels will produce a worse picture than standard hi-def (720p) resolution panels due to all the additional scaling req'd to 'fit screen'. If you have reservations about plasma (screen burn/image retention etc ) don't..... If you want any specific questions answered feel free to PM me and I'll be happy to help.

The reason I'd like 1080p is because I'll be drivin the TV from a media centre PC, and most of my viewing is Divx stuff

I'd recommend Samsung as well. We got an F86 series TV and it's a great performer. It's just a complete dust magnet.

Sony Bravia for £450.....

Not sure of a specific model - but have a look at John Lewis ( johnlewis.com ) - they do free delivery and a FIVE year guarantee on TV's.

My Mum and the in-laws have both bought Philips TV's from them recently - pleased with sercice and telly's.

I'm not convinced the sound is brilliant on Philips TV's though. I'd go for a Hitachi or Panasonic.

I have this one. I've had it since Jan & am very pleased with it so far. It's only 768 though, not 1080.

was gonna say you just dont need 1080p on a 32 inch screen. ive had my 32 inch sony 720p running next to my mums blokes 42inch 1080p. and i couldnt see any difference when running the xbox via hdmi

i think anyless than 37 and your ok with 720p imoa.

well done on your purchase though. the last hitachi tv i had was older than i was at the time!! only got rid as it didnt have scart connections! lol

Sweet :thumbup:

:thumbup: Good luck with your purchase, came back tonight to say, unless your in a small

environment, go larger (than 32") but see you have! Think you'll be pleased with

37" good size without compromising standard def too much. Now get yourself an amp

(if you haven't already got one) to do that big screen justice:thumbup:
