Driver door wind noise/creaking seats...opinions

Featured Replies

Hi,

From purchase (not new just over a year old) my 56 plate 2.0TDi Elegance has suffered from wind noise from the driver door. It happens from about 40mph upwards and sounds a bit like the window is slightly open.

Also, there is a continual creaking noise from the rear offside seat which is particularily noticable going over speed bumps etc.

It has been back to the dealers three times and they were finally of the opinion it was not a problem that they felt needed addressing. They did however, arrange for a technical guy from Skoda to come and look at it.

The result was he said it was normal for the car and the wind noise is coming from the wing mirror. Something about the aerodynamics of the car. The creaking is also normal and is simply movement of the seats in the body of the car (had a similar problem with my mk 1 octy and putting tape on the d catch solved it. I have tried it with this one but it does not work).

I have not made any further comment to the dealer about it as yet and thought I would ask if any other owners have had similar problems? Is it reasonable for the car to have these issues at just over 18000 miles?

Thanks

I've got the same problem with the wind noise but on the passenger side. My dealer says its from the mirror housing and is a common fault in the Octy2 - basically you'll have to learn to live with it! I just turn the radio up!

Wind noise is definately coming from the mirror assembly. Ive had it since day one.

Dealers usually couldnt care less once youve bought it. I think its caused by the ridge that runs along the underside. If you pull the mirror in youll find it will disappear. :)

Nothing on the seat sorry.

I frequently drive with the driver's window down in the summer and I don't find the air over the door mirrors makes any noise. Indeed, there's noise from the air coming inside the cabin through the window, but you expect that.

To stop creaking either use a silicone lubricant or adhesive cotton tape on the parts that rub together (or both).

For the wind noise check that the doar is seated properly. With the door closed it should sit flush with the body, not raised by even the tiniest amount.

Also check that the seals are not lifted from the metal and that the hinges and lock work properly.

With that out of the way make sure the glass is seated correctly in it's seals, and that the brush strip on the inside is making contact with it along it's entire length.

Hi,

Thanks for the replies guys.

I will get some silicon lubricant and give it a good spray to see if I can stop the creaking.

I am not entirely convinced that the wind noise is the mirror, I was leaning more towards the door seals. However, they don't let in water and the door seems to be seated correctly so maybe it is simply the mirror.

It is a bit annnoying that you get the "they are all like that" reply. However to be fair to the dealer they did get Skoda invovled and it is Skoda who are saying it is "normal".

Just upgraded my phones micro SD card to 8gb so will have plenty of tunes to drown it out!!!

Regards
