Variable Servicing Intervals

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I'm looking at a 1.9 TDI 4x4 Estate which apparantly had it's first service at 17k miles. Am I right in thinking that the car informs the driver when it's time to have a service? Does 17k sound a reasonable mileage for the car to request the first service?

Regards,

Richard.

My 1.9 TDI on variable was first done at 18,500 so yours sounds about right.

Just check the service indicator on the dash and it will tell you when it's next due. I'm sure it explains how to in the user manual.

my 2.0 tdi was around 16,500. as above check the service indicator.

Thanks, I wanted to ensure it was a reasonable figure, I can't say for sure when the indicator asked for a service or how long the owner waited before actually getting the service done, but at least I know 17k is a reasonable figure so it's likely it was serviced around the right time.

Hold down the trip reset button on the instrument cluster with the ignition on and it will show the reamining miles till next service..

Out of interest, how does this system work? Does it monitor oil quality with a sensor, or is it (the service interval) computed depending on the car's use over a period of time?

I think it's a bit of both, frequent short journeys on a relatively cold engine will shorten the service interval.

Sounds about right. Our '06' 1.9 first flagged up that it needed a service at 17,500 miles.
