central locking faulty

Featured Replies

Hi,

I had another post re4garding this, but unresolved, ill round it all up now in a new thread, so hopefully it can be resolved and useful to others.

My central locking locks/unlocks like it has a mind of its own, this can happen every 5 seconds and then stops for a few hours.

The car is the occy estate, manual windows, and central locking. Ive stripped down the door thinking the plug was there that may have been corroded, but being manual, its located in the boot.

I stripped down the boot and found the plug there, wrapped in foam, just under the wiper motor, again this plug was dry and in good order, no corrosion or signs of damp anywhere.

Thanks to everyone that helped regards this, now ive stripped these down and still have the trouble, can anyone give any advice on what i could try next please?.

Thanks

Any idea on were i should start to look, if its a electrical fault in the loom..

Cheers

Just replaced rhf window motor & module (pins at connection corroded) also needed to replace wiring loom as connections were corroded. i was able to fit the parts myself but the bulk of the cost is parts anyway. Module / motor 330 euro + vat. wiring loom 125 euro + vat. However i got 2nd hand module in perfect condition for £50 stg. Replacing these parts fixed interior light not coming on when door open, 'lights on' buzzer not working, central locking not working, electric mirrors not orerating via the joystick.....so to fix all these problems it was worth it. The start of my problem was doors locking while driving and it just escalated from there. You should remove the door panel/card and pull out the connection where loom fits into the rhf window motor module and inspect the pins there. Mine were corroded and some were so bad they had broken off.

The original post sounds like a different set-up. AFIK if the windows are not electric, then the conrol module is in a different location.

The only thing I can recommend is to have the car plugged into a diagnostic program at the dealers, or find someone with VAG Com software. There should be a fault code/ codes logged. This will give a better clue, or at least a starting point.

The start of my problem was doors locking while driving......

Is that not the anti-hijack feature? Or was it a random thing?

i had the same problem and by chance found i had a leak in the back of boot where the controller had been damaged by a pool of water! garage had checked everywhere and came across this by chance so id check that possibility?

Yeah i checked there, you mean the join in the cable? the one wrapped in foam?..I couldn't see anything from that one.

Unless the controller is something else.

I got the VAG-COM software and cable to read the codes, can you tell me were to plug this in please?.

Thanks

My rear wash pipe came off (common fault) whereby the water shorted something at the rear causing the central locking to go bonkers. I now have the dreaded drivers side fault, again common failure mode central locking and mirror doesn’t. Just wondering what’s going to go wrong next. Car 03 Vrs hatch.
