Skoda Roomster, The marmite car!!

Featured Replies

Right, the marmite car!

Well I thought I would share a little review of the car. As a few of you know I work for VAG UK so I get to see a lot of new cars from all over the brand either at work or when on training courses. And I have become a bit of a 'snob' since the days of owning my own skoda (still my favourite of all the cars I have owned )... but the softspot still remains for them even though I get to sit in 'better' plastics most of my day.

Well I finally got a chance to have a good look at the roomster, which is very much a marmite car in many peoples books you really do either love it or hate it! Now let it be said now... i still absolutly hate the looks!! But looking beyond that, it is a very clever car. Looking at the different storage options and rear seat options etc. Fantastic versability in what is in reality a supermini chasses.

The car over all feels extremly well screwed together which has always been the trait of Fabias. Sitting in the drivers seat all the controls were easy to reach and as per VAG all exactly where you expect to find them. Nice not having to search for buttons as they all share the same home pretty much model to model.

On the road itself it feels quite refined and the diesel packs more than enough punch for the size of car, although can't say i'm a fan of the lack of feel through steering, feels a little to light and it does roll about a fair bit!!

All in all my only let down was the colour of interior... for a car designed to have dirty mucky childeren :D in it... beige would not be my first choice.

Have been racking my brain trying to think of what car i could compare this too... and only one i could think of in this segment from VAG would be its bigger sister the Golf Plus. This would be the smaller (slightly more ugly!) version of the Plus.

If you want a practical supermini... and don't care for looks Roomster is perfect car. If you are more refrained on looks... buy the Fabia Estate... huge boot... and still a supermini.

I had a 1.4 diesel for a day. 100 miles later, thought it was a little belter.

it was quite a sad day when i hadned over my demo scout of 6 months.it was a blinding little car, easy to live with and alwasy got good comments about it when parked up or refueling.

the new owner has just been in with a big grin on his face saying how brilliant it is. the new estate ive got is nice but it dosent get as much attention as the olive green scout did!

I see more and more of these cars on the road every day and initially I thought they were a tad embarrassing but once you get used to them they look fine, especially in the right colour/alloy configuration with sunset glass.

As has been mentioned a million times before - there are FAR worse looking cars than the Roomy.

I've yet to see a Roomster Scout outside of a showroom.

And theres me thinking i got about a bit in my one :D

And theres me thinking i got about a bit in my one :D

Considering the mileage I do (car 6 months old, mileage about 28,500) I am surprised I haven't seen one. I have seen pretty much every other car going 'cept the Veyron

i was coming back from london about a month ago, driving down the m20 coast bound and it was late. i was the only car on this stretch of road for as far as i could see. then i see one single car on the inside lane. as i got closer i saw it was a roomster! i thought of all the cars to see at that point and i'd never had guessed another roo :D

There are a few Roomsters round my way, and I think they look great, especially with the 5 spoke alloys! Satin grey (pale blue), cappuccino and red all seem to really suit it! :)

I love the Roomster , I think it looks great in my favourite colour of Ocean Blue , with sunset glass.

we have a roomster scout in 1.9 pd105 flavour.

i like it, the interior has come a loooooooong way since my fabia vrs's interior, and ours has a black interior so it won't get mucky.

Out and about today in north-east scotland in my roomster - did about 60 miles - saw 3 others , yet some people at work have yet to see 1 ( or don't know what it looks kike ! )

As an aside did quick head count at SWMBO's work car park on friday -

Skoda 4

Volvo 1

VW 4

Ford 2

Mazda 1

Toyota 3

Honda 2

Vauxhall 1

Looks as though the message is finally getting across !

I was unsure on the Roomster at first.

But after seeing one on the road and getting used to its quirky looks I can prob see one being my next car when changing time comes.
