Guy at work suposedly deadlocked his works mondy (double fob press).

Yet thief pulled the handle off, and suposedly 'got around' the dealocks to steal his tools and laptop when parked outside the entrance to a Tesco's at 3pm.

Someone tell me what I'm thinking. Muppet didnt double lock his car!

AFAIK you can't deactivate the dead locks without the key/remote , but nothing is impossible with the right knowledge , we get Mondeos in the workshop with the outer handle ripped off , and screwdriver gouges into the lock assembly, whether they gained access this way , i don't know

Exactly what happened.

However when he came back to the car, the estates boot was open supposedly, and the alarm going off.

Personally I smell a rat. In all (tools, laptop and car repairs) he's cost the firm £2.5K+ - not to mention the work he couldnt do.

It seems silly to go to all the effort of ripping the lock apart when a brick thru' the window is much more efficient means of entry (although maybe not quite so covert), of course, i don't know all the details, just a thought

Just dont leave valuables. In my case, doing that kind of thing would mean *I* would be personally responsible for the laptop replacement cost - my company is pretty strict about it and people have started paying notice...

Still, it sucks

I always thought two clicks on the fob activated the deadlocks and alarm, and used to do it on my first car (which I bought 3rd-hand without the manual). Then I got my next car new, and it turned out 1 press was deadlocked, and the second press kept the car locked, but deactivated the deadlocks and alarm (in case you wanted to leave a passenger locked in the car but able to get out if necessary). As I say, my instincts on the number of presses turned out to be completely ar$e-about face, so maybe it's the same with the Mundano?

Mondeo is one blip for locked, and 2nd blip for alarm and deadlocks (confirmed with 3 flashes of the indicators)....

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't this fixed for the latest gen cars based on the MK V golf?

One press of the lock button on the fob puts the car in DEFCON 1 with deadlocks and alarm system

Two presses puts it in DEFCON 2 with standard door locks only. The same as pressing the B pillar button. AKA the 'mother in law' mode.

This applies to the MkV cars.

The problem is with the hatch/estate on the mondeo. Only the doors have deadlocks, the hatch/tailgate dont have such luxuries and rely on the electronics to cutout the power when locked. I can see how they got in, but wont publish here.

Thanks folks. I'm aware that from late '03 VW locks should be imune to the old attack methods - though ford galaxy's continued to used the old lock! :shock:
