Re-oiling K+N

Featured Replies

Found a great way of making sure a K+N is not over oiled. Use the swmbo's hairdryer on cool mode to blow through the filter and with =kitchen roll on the reverse to catch the excess! Worked a treat but the hairdryer is now a little slippery

I just hope that SWMBO's hairdo doesn't get oiled up next time she uses her dryer. Could ultimately be more expensive to fix than a MAF.....

Yeah and she might turn into a red head

What do you clean/oil it with? I now have 2 cars with cotton filters on and no cleaning/oiling materials - need to get on top of this soon.

K&N Do filter oil kits, but the usual MAF warnings apply.

I always assumed Green Filters do not need oil, but are they washable???

From what I can determine, Green Filters are basically the same as K&N, only Green Filters advertise that their oil is Positively charged so as to trap smaller, negatively charged dust particles (or vice-versa, I forget :smashfrea)

Green filters definitely require oiling - it's in the instructions that come with the filter. However it just mentions some proprietary kit - I can't help thinking that there are probably commonly available alternatives.

Nick,

you can get a Green Filter cleaning and re-oiling kit from Halfords....

So if Green's need oil, what's all the fuss about?

Might as well go K&N and skimp on the oil....or just not bother oiling it as i did on the Astra ;)

only filters in my experience that didnt need oiling was the stainless cone i ended up with on the 19.

K&N, Green and some other cheaper alternatives are all cotton gauze and require cleaning and re-oiling.

Pipercross, ramair and the like are foam and also need cleaning (more regular) and re-oiling, i found the foam filters didnt hold the oil as well but performed better and for longer anfter cleaning.

Stainless filters dont needs oiling and only require a rinse under the tap for cleaning.
