Fuel Filter

Featured Replies

guy's anyone I ve just gone out to my 02 octy vrs and I could smell petrol, I traced to the fuel filter looks like it's never been changed and it was serviced by skoda when I brought the car but that's another story. Can you tell me if the connectors are O ring and just clipped on and is it none return on the tank side, please help:finger:

all the pipes have o-rings on mate, not sure about the tank though.

I don not know if the tank has none return on it, it only leaks with the power on. I need to change as it's booked in for diagnostics check tomoz as the engine management light has been on for the last week, and know this. any way cheers for your help m8.

As far as i know the fuel filter for the 1.8t vrs is not in the service schedule and therefore won't be changed.

Personally if it is in for diagnostics and you are not 100% get them to put a genuine new filter on it.

Only reason I say that is that a bonnet full of petrol vapour and one spark will mean it's new car time :(

there is an o-ring inside each of the connectors, the fitting is a push tab type and is integral to the pipe so don't yank it or you'll end up in the same position as me where I had to drop the tank to change the shorter pipe.

Diagram of the tank below if it helps

Also make sure you clip the pipes back on securely. I remember a friend of mine once had one pop off on his Fiat Punto (same clip design). Even with this in mind, when I changed the filter on my Octy, I noticed that the clips seem to give a little clunk before they're pushed fully home, which could lead you to believe that they are secure when they're not.

I'm fairly sure the fuel filter isn't changed by the dealer, mine certainly never has been. I changed mine before a run to Germany when I went over the car to make sure it was in A1 condition. The amount of dirt which came out of my filter after 40,000 miles (assuming it had never been changed before) was shocking, so I would recommend a change every so often. I think mine was less than £20 and took about 10 minutes to change so it's really worth it IMHO.

Fuel Filter was easy I mean dead easy approx 5mins.

Un did clip holding the filter in position, jacked it up near rear wheel

clamped fuel pipe that feeds the filter near the tank as it's tight at the back of the filter,

pressed and pulled the snap connector of the engine side first it came off easy and then the rear of the filter and just fitted in reverse.

and the filter was a grand total of £6.95 to buy from dealer.:):)
