splosh !

Featured Replies

Yesterday morning was very cold. Have my washer bottle filled with genuine VAG winter formula screen wash. Operated the rear window washer and heard a sploshing sound with no action.

Took off the rear panel to be greated by this!

Plugged it back in and all back together in less than 10 minutes.

Hmm is it worth putting a cable tie around it of the the pipe material quite soft?

No. Its the hard plastic connector that came off.

Got a hot glue gun then?

Maybe a few dabs of that just to reduce the risk of it popping again, or am I missing the plot completely?

sounds a good idea, hot glue guns are so handy!

My dont you have big hands!!!

The amount of times I've heard of this happening (even had the same issue on the mk1), crap design. IIRC the dealers here were using a dab of super glue on it.

............although not sure if it it was the rubber that was coming off the plastic bit that came away on yours.

Ya must not be using the correct fluid mix :rolleyes::rolleyes:, well thats what you'll be told ;)

Carefull ; (think it was) ex RAF blokes thought "hot glue guns" are made by firms like Weller and join wire .,and hot glue is 60/40:rofl::rofl:

To be fair, the tube is designed to "pop on" during build (and hence it is also possible to "pop off").

Under normal use this is not an issue as there is no pressure build up, unfortunately a fairly common thing happens to washer jets and that is they get blocked by gunge or ice.

The MK4 Golfs I had always lost their pipes in winter, the problem comes that sitting in a nice toasty car you forget the outside temperature and noticed the rear window needed cleaning - "pop", whoops!

There are three solutions implemented or suggested by VAG dealers I have been to:

1) Tightly fit a tie wrap (cable tie) around tube/pipe junction (like a mini jubilee clip)

2) Use the correct de-icing strength of screen wash.

3) DONT USE WASHERS WHEN THEY ARE BLOCKED!

why the need to wash rear window? seriously had mine 9 months and 25k miles never used it.

The local polacks clean mine once a week lol

Oh I see now - every time I want to squirt, I'll stop the car, get out and check the nozzles aren't blocked first...

That gem, I am afraid, is just being passed on from the very useful VW servce manager at the time the boot of my Golf was wet. I must admit I was a little disatisfied with the lack of logic and practicality of the advice aswell!

Yes a cable tie tightly around the plastic connector should stop this. I've had the same problem on numerous VAG group cars now (Leon MK1, Octavia MK1, Polo) all cured with a cable tie;)
