What suspension?

Featured Replies

I am about to have the front brakes on the fabia upgraded to the tt 312mm (cheers golfturbo:() I have done a few searches and it would seem that leaving the suspension as is can result in excessivce pitching under heavy braking. So after many searches I am still looking to find a deffinative solution, ie

1) leave suspension alone

2) switch to Eibachs with standard shocks

3) Standard springs with Koni FSD

4) Eibachs with Koni FSD

5) coilovers (which derivative?

Looking for a reasonable compromise between handling and comfort, rather than outright handling, don't want to destroy sump oin every speed hump.

any comments welcome

Thanks Andrew

I vote eibachs with FSD's.

Nice bit of lowering without sump ripping off problems

ride is probably better than standard after being in wardys car who has both and i am sure he will be alone soon ;)

I went for Eibach and FSD combo after similar dilema and find the low speed round town ride to be just a little bit more compliant than standard but its higher speed cornering/direction changes where you really notice the difference and its much better than standard.

You will quickly find new limits but those first few drives on familiar ground will bring a big smile to your face :)

Definiteley not as much diving under braking and a solid feel when you climb in the driver seat.

There are others available, Weitec GT something and you get green springs!

Awesome Sarah runs koni STR-T and seems to like.

No problems with clearance apart from fully loaded on holiday down a dirt track and then only slight.

Can you not cadge a drive at next Malthouse Meet with Wardy to check out his setup ?

I'm sure  he'll be only to glad to oblige :)

you can still go for coilovers without without slaming it to the floor but i do hear that thefsd are really good but coilovers are more for driving and the fsd's are comfort

I'd say the FSDs should still be pretty good for driving compared to the standard setup. I'm torn between this setup and the V-Maxx kit. :(

I got the FSD's from Awesome. Went to fit them today but just couldnt get the strut out of the wheel housing for love nor money! Tried compressor clamps but I couldnt get them compressed enough. Thought sod it and booked it into my local garage.

I went for FSD's because they give you the best of both worlds. They are good for normal driving and better when pushed! A good compromise I think?

yes i do agree from what i have heard (from a freind that has them on his vrs) about the fsd's tha ride is amazing bu as soon as you start to push the car its not to special i was going to get the fsd's and the eibach springs but the fsd's seem to push the car back up a bit (and i dont want that and i think that the fabia is to high anyway) so the cost of the eibach and fsd's came to over £480 so for just over £120 more i can get a realy good set of coilovers i just wanted to go a bit lower than the 25mm and get a nice stiff ride.

Hmm good points and makes me wonder if the FSDs are for me now too!

That's why I'm thinking the V-Maxx coilover kit which is only £400 with the droplinks, £80 less than the Koni's! For £80 I could get myself an arm rest, some seat covers or fix my YAW sensor lol

Eibachs & FSDs every time, not tried coilovers though I must admit

Did some internet and soul searching:rofl:

Read the reviews of the FSD's even with stock springs.

I think it is a question of priorities:

budget (aka marital harmony or lack thereof)

how low do you want the car

more comfort than stock setup but also with great handling vs all out track/smooth road handling but some loss of comfort

In my case to add an important factor- the JKM GB that's on until wed pm was too good to pass up on. And I have to say that Katie is super in her communication!

For the real hard core enthusiast who lives in a mythical place without any speedbumps and perfectly smooth roads, is on a trackday at least every weekend (and needs the associated bragging rights) coilovers would be the better choice....

That's simply not me...

i run the Eibachs on stock dampers, never had a problem , and don't feel too bad on day to day driving , also ok on the track

I've ran Koni/Eibachs for 3 years now. Fully wound out and ideal for bumpy Peak District roads (in a WRC kind of way ). With an ARB.

I've always liked the look of 'slammed' vDubs etc.

However, whils reading an article by a 'tuning' specialist in a mag recently, I was surprised to find he recommended my set-up over coilovers, for anything BUT trackdays :jawsmall:

Has anyone tried bilstien B8's or KW dampers?

The 35mm springs and dampers from kw are exellent ;)

I'm running FSD's on stock springs and can't fault them, they improve the ride immeasurably and handling somewhat, although with the amount of travel available there is still a lot of roll and pitch (it's more pronounced under sustained turns or braking, sudden shifts are handled quite well making the car much more 'flickable').

Ultimately I recommend them, but I'm now looking to get the Eibachs to improve the looks and complete the handling.

From other posts in this thread I have a feeling you know which option I'll vote for :D

More than welcome to a demo drive next time I'm at the Malt. The road out to the '62 is also a pretty test road for suspension setups!

Cheers,

Steve
