De-Cubing The Cube

Featured Replies

I'm thinking of turning my Cube van into a pickup, and wondered if anyone had any knowledge on the subject?

I know the van top just bolts off the back of the pickup body, but I reckon replacing the van doors with a tailgate will be trickier. Butts of Bawtry do replacement tailgates for £175. I'd like to get one off a scrapper but they seem pretty damn rare.

A far cheaper option would be to get one of those tailgate mesh things that I've seen on VWcaddy.com.

The main problem seems to be finding the black plastic trim that goes round the top of the panels surrounding the bed. Can't find em anywhere.

If it gets through its MOT without costing me too much then this will be something for me to tinker with in the summer.

It needs a bit of body work and the windscreen needs replacing but eventually it should be a good little project.

Hmmm...tricky one.

I think the best way is to have a peep at one thats already a pick up, and see what you need, before you do it, ie make sure you have all the bits and do it in one go...

Good idea. I been looking at pictures on Google so far, but seeing one in the metal is the best way of seeeing what needs to be done.

The trims are like rocking horse **** as well

I am currently making a custom trailer out of the back half of a cube van , to tow behind my fun

If by chance you come across a spare tailgate i need one as well. The top trims i an going to make out of wood, and rout a channel down the middle to go over the lip left when the top was removed

If you dont want the rear doors when you remove them, give me a shout

I hadn't thought of using wood instead of plastic, another good idea.

You wouldn't have a use for the cube top as well would you?

Sledge!

Ive got a FUN front wheel arch if you ever need one Steve...

I know of some tailgates, brand new....

PM ME!!

We converted one a while back, it had a pod on the cab roof that was quite well stuck on and made the top trims out of wood. The top trims were a horrendous price from Skoda and apparently they never come off in one piece.
