front discs

Featured Replies

hi all what is the wear limit on the front discs on a 56 plate vrs mine has just done 50k and still on original front pads and discs but i have had the back pads replaced at 40k i am about to change the front pads but don't know weather to replace the discs as well and is there any problems when changing the discs?

thanks Richard

They are both easy enough to do.

Just check the discs to see if they have gone below the minimum thickness. (Think its 19mm on the Fabia)

If there is signs of scoring then I would replace them.

IIRC the 312mm discs and 288mm discs are 25mm new 22mm worn out.

HTH

EDIT: Sorry that's on the Octy but would apply if you have done the 312 upgrade.

Disc's usually don't need changing for two to three sets of pads,

Every one drives differently though, but getting 50k out of a set proves you are not overly hard on the brakes.

Providing there are no big wear grooves or a big lip on the leading edge, i personally would just change the pads.

Without pics only you can decide though, don't forget advice given on the 'net is worth exactly what you paid for it ;)

I'd change after 50k anyway (Especially the back) not on wear grounds but due to the fact they corrode

Its not the 50k that makes them corrode but time - these are just (12 to) 18 months old!

The use "ages" the discs. Constant contraction and expansion of the material accelerates the corrosion greatly. There was nothing left of my rear discs after 15 months and 50k
