VRS "groaning" when reversing.

Featured Replies

As the title suggests, my octy VRS "groans" when reversing. Quite loudly too, but not when moving forward.

Is it just a case of getting some copper grease in the callipers, or is there something possibly wrong with the gearbox. I can't tell atm where the noise is coming from

Loads and loads on this topic Snagsy.

Do a search for "mooing" and all will be revealed. :)

I quite like my moo cow.

I like my Moo cow, he comes out more in the summer.

Mine must be hibernating...not heard it all winter. ;)

There aint any skoda dealer near me. Is it possible to get the brake mod done at an independant garage?

I've no idea what's involved in the mod, as i just live with the noise.

Cant be that difficult i would imagine, if they knew what was needing done.

I had something done to mine just before it went out of warranty, which involved the appearance of a shiny brass cylinder about the size of a 35mm film canister on the inboard side of each of the calipers. I'm assuming it's a new cylinder and/or piston for the brakes, although I don't know what else was done. I think the law is now that warranty work can be done by any VAT-registered garage just like servicing, however I don't know how they'd go about sourcing the parts and getting paid for the labour...

Cheers fellas. I'll probably just live with it tbh. You all know what its like when you get a new car (used) and you find little things wrong with it that wind you up really easily :)

I've never done anything about mine.. :)

Mmoooooo

Mine reappeared when i washed it recently but its gone again now. Does anyone get this after fitting aftermarket disks and pads or does this cure it?

Mine started having it with aftermarket pads and discs on.

Easy to cure, fit a set of rear brake pads from a Passat or Skoda Superb part no 3B0-698-451-A

not had a squeak since!

Why's that Mart ?

Different shape or something ?

I also have this problem so think i shall be changing my pads :)

Mine sounds more like a randy whale than a cow tho, lol.

:+1:

So the general consensous is to run the later Skoda pads if you want a quite backwards journey? lol

Standard early pads and Aftermarket, will steal Moo?

Oh..just remembered, i have Mintex rear pads on mine...started since they were fitted. :)

No the Passat pads are exactly the same shape but the have 3M tape on the back which adheres to the calipers and basically stops the vibration. All my VW Golfs had the same sort of pad, I can't understand why the Octavias pads are different. There is no need to use copper grease on the back of the pads fitted with adhesive.

I also suspect that the Passat pads maybe slighty softer compound, but seeing that the front brakes do most of the work anyway you can't notice any difference at all.

Cheers for that Mart, i never knew that.

I'm on Mintex pads on the rear at the minute, but it's not bothering me enough to warrant changing them, i only reverse once a day ! :D

Mine were squealing like a stuck pig going forward too. My car goes shopping with Mrs SkodaLouise quite alot though!
