How bad is it???

Sorry to here this; trip to your dealer ASAP to avoid compounding any problems, I'm afraid to say.

DPF light is caused because the DPF is clogging up, seems to be a common problem on the TDI vRS where the car is mostly driven round town. Take it to the dealer so they can manually trigger the regeneration cycle.

The DPF light has gone off now.

EML still on. going to try to get home tomorrow (200 miles|)

Im booked in for Thursday morning at the dealer. Fingers crossed i get home ok

Try giving it a good blast if you can; you ought to get a few full throttle opportunities somewhere on the way home. :D
