Is this a fair asking price?

Featured Replies

I'm going to look at an Octy tomorrow and wondered if you could tell me what you all think of the asking price?

It's an 04 plate 1.9tdi PD SE with 66,500 miles on the clock. The independent trader is asking £4,995 for the car and says it is in mint condition.

What's the general opinion on this? Good value? Mileage a little high for year or just nicely run in?

How much slower would this feel than a Fabia VRS out of interest?

Feed the car's details into the various car valuation sites in this thread.

yeh, i've had a go on parkers and that says private good at £6,005 and private poor at £,4,965. These prices are for what they deem to be ave mileage which is apparently only 20,000 miles!!!

I'm wondering how much difference the 'high' mileage makes.

The Glass Guides just seems to say that they 'don't have valuations for this vehicle'!!!

Seems a good price initially, but be wary when checking it out. :) Doubt it is much slower - Will have the same pd130 engine no? Unless this one is a mk2 and has the 105hp 1.9?

Same pd130 engine.

Having had a look around the octy forum it looks as though it's the age where cambelt / air and fuel filters / water pump / brake fluid could all need changing and may not have been done. However, the car is advertised as 'recently serviced' so I'll have to ask some very specific questions and ask for receipts / evidence of work having been carried out.

Seems like a good price to be honest, and don't let the above average mileage put you off.

Bare in mind its 4 years old, so 12,000 mile x 4 = 48,000, so its not that high. And plus its a diesel so that mileage is nothing on it.

Just make sure it has a comprehensive service history, also you mention a cambelt, alot of dealers will change this at request as part of the deal. I know when I bought my Octy, I stipulated they change it otherwise I wouldn't have the car, now there not going to loose a deal over a few £100's worth of work, if they have enough mark up already on the car.
