EGR Leaking oil

Featured Replies

On the egr of the BLT engine there is a small hole below the silver saucer part,

Should oil or a mist of oil be able to escape out of this hole?

Cheers

Bruce

Im not an expert but seeing as you dont even need it for the car to function, and as long as its not effecting performance, i shouldnt worry to much mate.

turn it off with vag com

stupid things

Trouble is i've just put a deposit down on the car!

Thanks for the replies.

If its leaking oil it need replacing, ive seen loads do this, the fix is to replace. cost about £120 for the valve and about 30mins labour.

I have exactually the same problem, leaks just out off the small doesnt it!

so is it not ment to do this? icon6.gif

Lucky Still got a used warranty!

mine did this, was replaced under warrenty, loads on here have had them replaced under warrenty,

as soon as I'd had it fixed, had it turned as far down as it would go with VAGCOM.... no prob since then

yes this is a common fault get it replaced under waranty if you have it still

what was it that u turned down on vag, also how do u get sorted out so u can use vag com softwareand hardware?

I have the same problem.

Shall be getting it replaced soon!

did you notice the car running any better with the new valve?

did you notice the car running any better with the new valve?

according to all the propaganda, i killed a polar bear ! ;)

it didn't seem to smoke as much...

as normal, the EGR will recirculate, then when driven gently for a while this wil build up, boot it from below 2k , and all the smoke will come flying out!

also, it was leaking, but not to the extent that i was filling it up with oil inbetween services... it had made a bit of a mess of the back of the engine bay though... all clear after the new valve, and no more problems after it was turned down to effectively 0......

mine was leaking, took it to the dealers who replaced the value and the turbo even though I didn't have a performance problems !

Thats strange why did they replace the turbo? any ideas?

It is common, maybe even normal. But really it aint right.

Thanks for the reply.

I just would of hoped the dealer would of changed it, but all i got told was

"There is a VAG group technical service bulletin about this residue which confirms that it is quite acceptable"

cheers

Very much the same for me, just got told this is what they do!

Its common but it not a problem with the car.

Maybe a dumb question but what if you turn the EGR off or down as low as poss on VAGCOM what effect will that have on the engine and performance.Won,t the exhaust gases be trapped if its switched off? Sorry its because i don,t know its function

No effect on performance. Better effect on engine because you are just giving the engine clean air instead of recycled exhaust gas.

If you disable it you may get a CEL checklight on the dash though.

I found that turning it down made it slightly less noisy and revved a bit smoother.

I think it just means that less exhaust gases will be recirculated back around... they'll just be dumped out straight away instead.

I think it could have an effect on noxious emissions but not sure...

Cheers for that people thats satisfied my curiosity about it.Just another damn emisions thing:rofl:

Mine did the same mate even though I had my EGR replaced last October. They said the seal had broken again so they replaced the whole thing again. On my third one in 2 years.

So it doesnt create any sort of problem by leaking? If i had it turned down in Vag-Com will it then stop leaking? Am i ok to just keep it on there even though its leaking?
